I've just come to realise the definition of a true villian: one who spreads
villany and evil so well and so quietly that they are not even noticed as the
true evil one.
In KYPH, who's the person who is the real cause of all the heart-ache between
AK and KS? The one who both of them truly trusted because that one person
didn't really appear to have reason to cause any trouble between our snugglebunnies at all?
I mean: everyone else has their reasons. AK's mom and dad had their
business at risk; Karthik wanted his mom's attention; Anitah was a
class-one social snob; Mishti wanted AK; Prithvi wanted KS.
So who?
It's Harshini. She's the one that no-one was watching. But she's the one who
was the reason that KS had her first real secret from her beloved AK. She's the
one for whom KS did the one thing that our boy asked not to do -- have
secrets from him. And little KS would still have told AK, except that Harshini
begged and begged her not to.
And AK, what can I say about our lovely AK? Oh, I am so sad that I berated
his character earlier!
AK constantly held out against his brother, his mother, Anitah, even when
they presented such solid evidence as a video tape of KS taking money. He
stubbornly held to his belief in KS. But when he begged Harshini to be honest
with him, she silently and stolidly lied to him. It was ONLY at that point that
he broke. And after that, he couldn't hold out against his personal demons
any longer. The guy who said that "even if God came and besmirched your
character, I will not believe him" believed her best friend, her oldest friend.
And why not? After all, why should Harshini hurt KS?
(Yes, I'm feeling very contrite about all my earlier postings about how AK had
behaved so very badly. Our poor boy did have a reason -- his beloved girl HAD
hidden secrets from him, and that too about something that he has always
been sensitive about people taking advantage of him for, his money, his
stardom. Oh, I know it doesn't excuse him completely. But KS cannot be
completely excused either!)
To quote the greatest author that ever lived, from one of the greatest
plays that was ever written:
"O most pernicious woman!
O villain, villain, smiling damned villain!
My tables. Meet it is I set it down
That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain."
--Hamlet by Will Shakespeare
Only in this case, Harshini doesn't even smile that much! She is more like
Iago out of Othello, who also just wanted to destroy people (Othello and
Desdemona) because they had something that he didn't have.
Do you think that KYPH writers and producers are creating KYPH out of pieces
of Shakespeare's plays?! What a delicious thought! :-) But my heart will break
if our snugglebunnies die, either one alone or both.. Argh.
