My take on KYPH fan's post... I saw the clash in opinions and couldnt restrain myself..
Any soap based on familial relationships, love or romance will have its base in fiction. Serials reflect the contemporary society is an established fact. They draw their ideas from society, and they contribute in giving ideas to society as well...its a two way communication.
If we talk about a serial which deals with A particular issue, well, would be different. We can talk about soaps made on the background of Doctors and Medicine, on Law, on Social Order, Terrorism, or any other issue, such soaps are bound to be different.
But how much variety can be put in a regular family oriented serial? Hardly any...All you can do is twist and turn relationships...
For eg, look at American serials, all Ekta soaps have their roots in either Santa Barbara or Bold and Beautiful...they were sick to watch...but sold like Hot cakes..
But if you look at X-Files, ER, NYPD Blues, Picket Fences, Friends or any other famous sitcom, they deal with 'other' issues in society.
Ekta is not to blame, her genre is 'Social Relationships' and she is minting money in that.
My last point, its the viewer's choice to watch what is being churned out. Why are we watching these soaps if we dont like them? Its our discretion.. Today also some housewives will prefer Saas-Bahu to Time Bomb, coz they cant relate to it...I loved Time Bomb. Thats my choice and taste.
