IT'S THE 'K' letter again, but the new serial "Kamal", to be shortly launched by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, may do something to redeem the reputation of a girl, who began to stand for regression and repression for most women. The story revolves round three bar girls, a la "Chandni Bar" and their efforts to raise a foster daughter, without letting the sleaze that surrounds them touch her. Kapoor is quite clear that her serial has to be character-driven rather than story-driven, showing the qualities of the bar dancers, rather than focussing on the grim reality of their lives. However, the fact that she came up with such a subject, in contrast to the petty family intrigues that are Balaji Telefilms' usual offerings, is to Ekta Kapoor's credit
