(Attention: There're a series of AK&KS&their-kids scenes in the second set which all those believers of "AK&KS love love love" are going to love. Seriously. :-) )
The first set begins with the ending of the previous episode: Troll Prithwi assuring Femme Fatale Simone that he will win.
We cut to another day in court, where TopNotch Lawyer 2 calls Alliyah back on the stand for the defence. Ms. Alliyah, sez he, you are AK's sister? And you were also close to Josh? Alliyah nods assent, while AK looks down on the floor in misery at the second question. Were Josh&AK close? Alliyah says very close. But what of this quarrel? Alliyah is clear: Yes, they quarreled but it was a misunderstanding. TN Lawyer 2 frowns: Oh, so everyone that AK quarrels with, he kills? Court bursts into laughter. The SurlyProsecuting Lawyer (who's been glowering in dark jealousy at TNLawyer 2's long locks 'cause he only has short curly hair himself) leaps up and moves an objection to all the frivolity.
The judge sustains the objection and TN Lawyer 2 moves on. Well, Ms. Alliyah, what exactly was it that AK said? Did he threaten to kill him? Alliyah is reluctant but admits: yes, he might have said that, but it was only in a fit of anger. The SP Lawyer is on his feet again, before TN Lawyer 2 can make the court laugh again - Judge, he is going towards the same point again, this is pointless! TN Lawyer 2 suddenly flares up! Will you stop spoiling my defence, you idiot! just because you are jealous of my long locks!? And throws his file at SP Laywer. SP Lawyer surges back: How dare you, Sir! TN Lawyer 2: I dare, you surly short-curly-locksy Sir! The two Lawyers are nose-to..er, chin and glaring at each other.
The judge might've said something to bring them to order because suddenly sez TN Lawyer 2: Ah ha! So you are angry! What were you going to do? Punch me? Hit me? _Kill_ me? SP Lawyer is backtracking ungracefully: Well, you know, it was just in anger... falling like a pathetic buzzing bee into TN Lawyer 2's long-silken-locks trap. Well, just as you can say terrible things in anger, so can my client. It doesn't mean that he is automatically guilty of the crime of killing his best buddy. The court is in an uproar of smiles. Along with SP Lawyer's sudden feeling of inadequacy, one "my-stomach-hurts" face is that of Troll Prithwi and the other "my-stomach-really-hurts" face is that of ... AK!
(What is it with AK????)
We cut to AK, surrounded by cops, facing KS outside, waiting to enter his van back to jail. He is not looking at her; she is unsmiling as she hears him rumble out a thanks. KS shakes her head: it's not her, it's Shabbir (name of TopNotch Lawyer 2!) AK raises his voice to thank TN L.. sorry, Shabbir. Slick Shabbir shakes his head back: it's not him - he believes AK is innocent and he is just doing his job; it's really KS that AK should be thanking for convincing him to take the case. After yet another round of ping-pong conversation, Slick reminds KS to be in court bright and early and full of conviction, because the next day is important to swing the case shut.
(What IS it with AK?? Why this demeanour of can't-look-anyone-in-the-eye, guilt-ridden expression? Does he want to die?
Further, there is no semblance of regret about or thought for Josh -- the focus is all on the AK&KS dynamics, which I agree is an important part. However, it's just SO weird given what is happening in the story! BOO, KYPH-writers, BOO!)
The next set begins with KS cuddling Daadi and being hysterically happy about winning the case, and getting on with life. Daadi is also hysterically happy about everything swinging back up after a period of being down (which all the people on this forum know to be a holy truth about life and business and economic cycles). They are both hysterically happy being hysterically happy together.
(Of course, it is a bad thing when characters are _so_ sure that the upswing is happening -- we just _know_ that we are being set up for the downswing.
On an unrelated note, world's financial markets have just gone through their first day of significantly large down movement today, which began with the US economic data release yesterday -- get ready for a possible downturn in the business cycle, folks. All of which just goes to show that sometimes, fact and fiction are related, and we might be able to use forecasted downswings in fiction to predict downswings in fact.
Gee! And you all thought that KYPH was just another silly Hindi TV show! But I digress...)
We cut to KS lying in bed in happy anticipation for the coming day; she happens to catch (what appears to be a) shooting star outside her window. She instantly glows and clasps her hands (which she does a HECK of a lot these days!) and dreams of life with AK: bothering AK as he sits at work at the computer (HUH??! Since when did AK's work involve the computer -- er, isn't he a musician? Er, have I wandered into watching another soap by accident??!); cuddling a kid and being cuddled by AK; AK&KS cuddling two kids; AK feeding milk to a pregnant KS who is cuddling a kid - all "awwwwww" scenes created to rise the viewer up to higher peaks before setting us up for the fall that follows.
We cut to a rude awakening at the court the next morning, with Troll Prithwi arguing with FF Simone. KS catches sight of them, and instantly her Nosy-Parker-Stalker instincts are on high alert!
Troll Prithwi to FF Simone: How can you do this to me? It's all over! He stalks away leaving a shattered FF Simone behind. KS trots up nosily to FF Simone: What happened? Why he is shouting? FF Simone is sobbing fake tears (_badly_!): Oh, I can't tell you! Nosy-Parker KS can't stand it; her obstinate little jaw sets: well, if you won't tell, I'll ask Troll myself! And flounces off.
(Seriously! Hasn't KS any sense of other's privacy?? Why hasn't Slick Shabbir got her under his wing, practising her lines for the court instead of flitting around like some frivolous butterfly?)
Troll is waiting for his prey elsewhere; Nosy-Parker KS comes to him: Why is Simone crying? What did you do to her? Troll appears miserable (but since his evil face at the time of killing Josh, Prithwi can no longer appear as innocently miserable as he used to): No, this is not your business.
(_Just_ the right thing to excite a Nosy-Parker KS' desperation to know. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Prithwi is almost as smart at manipulating KS as AK is/used to be.)
Nosy is nearly dying with frustration: You two were fine yesterday. What can have happened in just one day to split you up??! Troll walks away, pretending to cry: No, KS, don't ask me to tell you; why should I make all three of us miserable? That's enough to push Nosy overboard: _Three_ of us??? What is there between the two of _you_ that will make _me_ miserable? Troll plays his victim well - no matter how much she pleads, begs, threatens - Troll refuses to tell. Driven to the point of madness, Nosy flounces off to find FF Simone, who she is convinced will reveal all.
And boy, does she reveal all! After simpering that she is afraid to lose KS' friendship, Fake Fears Simone then immediately spills the beans of how she and AK spent the night together. The world spins to a stop for Nosy Parker KS, who suddenly looks like a collapsed balloon: there's one show of fire when she slaps FF Simone across the face with all the strength she has. But afterwards she staggers off - she has to talk to AK to confirm this horrid story.
(Hmm - unrelated note: standing next to skinny FF Simone, suddenly KS looked like a well-fed calf, being led to slaughter... Hmm.)
We cut to the jail where AK's standing in his familiar feet-apart stance. He catches sight of KS coming with a terribly fixed face towards him. He, who has constantly had a hang dog expression, suddenly looks like judgement day has come. She walks up: I've to ask you something for which you have to tell me the truth. AK's face is frozen in fear. Did you and FF Simone sleep together? AK's eyes drop instantly and they refuse to come back up. KS has her answer, and she falls apart. AK tries to stop her, suddenly finding his tongue with with to tell her everything. But as always, he is too late.
(There was a sense of deja-vu in this. AK telling Josh: With KS and me, it's always too late.
BTW, do NOT miss the ultimately corny manner in which KYPH-director choose to depict KS' dreams/memories shattering - UGHGHGHGHGH!)
We cut to the court, where the judge is highly irritated with the defence : where is your witness? This delay is an insult to justice and I will not tolerate it. Slick Shabbir tries to be placatory: I'm desperately apologetic, but my witness will appear. There must've been a problem. AK refuses to look up. The judge brushes Slick aside: I'm going to strike this witness off... And then in soapy-court-entrance Take 2, a voice comes in: I'm here. KS has finally arrived.
Slick is relieved and escorts her to the stand; AK looks stunned and fearful all at once; KS looks like she has been struck through the heart and has forgotten to breath. (Oh, sorry, that happened to Josh, didn't it?) KS swears to speak the truth, but she really isn't paying attention. She and AK are doing what they did the last time they faced each other in court: having a silent conversation all of their own. Slick, relieved that things can go forward, asks: KS, do you believe that AK could murder Josh? In KS' mind, flashes scenes of the day that she ran to find AK in the "room that is reserved at the venue ..."(**): her meeting Josh, Josh looking guilty, FF Simone all dressed up and pretty inside the room. And AK standing, silently pleading, in the stand in front of her. She is weeping silently and desperately as Slick repeats his question.
(**: Please check the E episode write-ups of 28 Sep if you are really out of sensible things to do and want to figure out what the devil the "room that is reserved at the venue ..." is all about.
I thought that the last time AK&KS faced each other in court, the silent conversation that they had with each other was one of the better executed scenes in the serial.
In comparison, this one was inferior in the way the actors managed to put the conversation across. I guess the actors are going through show fatigue after having worked on it for so long. But they should really compare that session and this session to see how far the deterioration has gone. Seriously. :-(
)
End of show.
Preview for the next week: KS-of-stone, with Troll behind her, telling Slick Shabbir to drop the case. Slick is astonished: we are so close to winning. But KS is now beginning to transformed into stone by the Troll: just drop the case, I don't want you to defend AK anymore.
(Well, it's a cliffhanger finish. From the Preview, it looks like KS did not do damage to the case despite being torn up about AK. Which will be a _good_ thing and will save the KYPH-writer's souls when they reach the stars and request for a spot, if it is true.
All the actors are hamming by now. ATandon is hamming; NBamb was hamming. MIKhan had little to ham with, but whatever he had reeked of hamming. I mean, even MAlagh was hamming today!!!! The smallest ham today was the lady playing Alliyah, but she had a small role today. The chap playing Slick Shabbir is so new that I can't really tell. But all the performances were like big soapy bubbles floating around waiting to burst. Today, I didn't feel like sighing - I got rather irritated.
The flashback of Josh's brought back a whiff of the fun of the old days. But in a good way. Long live Josh. I'm contemplating a "Josh lives!" T-shirt, after the "Josh&AK forever" one. :-)
Oh well, last episode for the year for me, and
it's a tad sad
that it had to be bad.
But then, the last time I took an extended KYPH-break, it was after a ROCKING episode. So I'm not complaining. :-) C'est la vie. Have fun always. See you later.)
