Model-turned- actor Gurpreet Singh ( who plays 'Sujal' in 'Kahin Toh Hoga' on Star Plus ) has airdashed to his home-town Chandigarh with his actress girlfriend Kanishka Sodhi to solemnise his 'rokka' rishta (engagement) amid family members and close relatives. Even as teenaged girls screamed and giggled around, the fiancee-to-be, Kanishka was absorbed in watching the mehendi being applied to her palms and feet,"It all seems like a wonderful dream. We had decided to get engaged on August 7th, it being Friendship Day, plus it was also a shagun muhurat. But with the torrential rains and the deluge that took place last week, our plans almost went haywire. And then we were pre-occupied with our hectic shoots to make up for lost time. We had almost planned to postpone the engagement ceremony to a later date. But I guess August 7th was the pre-ordained date in our 'kundali'. So now we are looking forward to everything falling in place," gushes the light-eyed Kanishka who met her 'beau' on the sets of his maverick movie 'Madhubala' where she plays the title role.
In the movie, while her character is going through crisis, it's Gurpreet who is her supportive lover-boy. The film is believed to be a clever rip-off of the real-life controversy involving aspiring actress Preeti Jain and director Madhur Bhandarkar. Meanwhile the suave Singh is yet to reconcile that his (d)alliance is finally crystallizing.
"Till the last shooting schedule of 'Madhubala' we were on very formal hi-hello terms. It was only at the fag-end of the shoot that we realised we were 'made-for-each-other'."
"And Kanishka and I became close buddies much before I hit it big time as the telly character 'Sujal',"laughs Gurpreet.
Incredible as it may sound, prolific music-video model Kanishka's real name also happens to be Gurpreet Kaur Before she took on the 'screen-name' of Kanishka, that is. The lovey-dovey couple is expected to return to the city by the next weekend to resume their shoots. As a parting shot, Sodhi quips, "Sujal's fans need not be disheartened 'cos he still belongs to Kashish. It is the off-screen Gurpreet I am hooked to. "
