Shabbir Ahluwalia confesses how the 'messy look' works for him
How are you enjoying your new-found recognition?
I have never had it so good. I would ascribe it to my good luck, hard work and the good wishes of my parents and close friends.
Are you purposely cultivating the unkempt-look?
I am too lazy to look well-groomed all the time. And strangely, this has helped me. My character in 'Kahiin to Hoga' could get away with the messy look. I think it adds to my appeal. Most actors are so well-groomed that I stand out in contrast.
Of the two shows, which is your favourite one?
'Kahin to Hoga' has made me what I am today. So it will obviously remain special. I think 'Nach Baliye' has revealed another aspect of my personality. For the first time I have anchored a show and it has been well-received.
What is the best part about hosting 'Nach Baliye'?
It's all real - nothing is orchestrated about the show. Though I did not know Sangeeta Ghosh before, our chemistry has ticked. We complement each other. We chill out and have fun on the sets. I think that is reflected on screen.
What are your other projects?
I am excited about 'Karmic Konnection' coming up on Star One. It's inspired by 'The X-Files'.
What do you have to say about your alleged link-up with actor Natassha?
I don't wish to sound politically correct, but we are just good friends. Let me go on record to say that I am not dating her and don't intend to do so either.
Is there somebody else in your life?
There is nobody as of now. I don't wish to get into a relationship at present as I wish to concentrate on my career.
Which are the characters you would like to play?
Where foreign films are concerned, I would love to do 'Scarface' or 'The Usual Suspects'. In Bollywood, Ram Gopal Varma's characters intrigue me. Maybe, when I decide to concentrate on films, I will go to Mr Varma and plead for a role!
