He opened the door to the room slightly, trying hard not to make any noise in the process. He didn't want to wake her up and make her think that he was some kind of creepy stalker who liked watching girls sleep. Good thing that she didn't know that it was his room she was sleeping in. It had the most comfortable bed and Gauri really needed a good night sleep.

As the door slid few centimetres apart, he let his gaze travel over her sleeping petite form. What he saw made him smile, he just couldn't help after seeing her sleeping like that. Gauri was lying on the bed with her arms and legs extended, she was hogging the whole bed. She slept like a kid.

Shivin stood there for few more minutes, just staring at the girl sleeping in his room, on his bed. She was so innocent, so pure, untouched and he, his life was a mess so complicated that it rivalled a spider's cobweb.

Shivin closed the door and went outside at the poolside. Reclining on the chair, he closed his eyes letting the day's events sink in.

Gauri. She's like an enigma to him. Selfless, brave, loving and innocent. He remembered the day, a week back, when he had met her for the first time. She had mistaken him for his best friend Ahan, who was of the thought that he had betrayed him.

Earlier he was tensed about the situation Ahan's mom had put them in, that's why he didn't carefully notice the fierceness of her feature. Her eyes bright and angry, a scowl on her lips and the determination and fiery temper that was etched on her face. In all the tension he had also ignored the sparks that ran through his system the moment he had touched hers.

Shivin raised his hand to his eye level and thought about the sparks that light up whenever they touch. That day he had lost his best friend but got someone in the form of Gauri.

And today as well, he had been surprised to see Gauri in Goa. Unfortunately he had witnessed the encounter between her and her brother. That selfish son of a...

Shivin sat up startled, he was never the guy who curses then what happened just now? What was he doing? Why was he helping Gauri, a girl he barely knows, this much. Sure he always helped the one who needed help but he never had to literally force his help on someone. Well it wasn't exactly forcing but still why was he so desperate to help her. What was she to him?

Why was he willing to risk his life her? He pinched the bridge of his nose as he thought about Ahan's question, "Why was he so concerned about Gauri?" What did she had in her that made him care for her so much. Cherry on the top were her tears. A single teardrop felt like acid on his heart. He just couldn't see her crying, what surprised him more was the fact that he wanted to strangle her brother dead for making her cry.

Nothing reasonable. Right?

He wanted to soothe her, make her feel good that's why he asked her to have a dip in the swimming pool but he wasn't prepared for the tension that Gauri's touch caused in his body. Her hands on his bare body, her wet and soaking body clinging to his and the soul penetrating eyes staring into his. All that felt familiar yet unknown. He didn't want to move away, never had he felt even an ounce of what he was feeling for Gauri for any other girl.

She was special.

"Not feeling sleepy?" Shivin sat straight on the chair and turned around to face the owner of the familiar soft voice.

There stood Gauri, she was dressed in a white and orange colored night suit, a size bigger than hers. She looked quite adorable in it.

"Nah. I just needed some fresh air." Shivin replied.

Gauri came and on the other chair, facing Shivin, "I thought after all that 'adventure' you would be sleeping like dead by now." Gauri teased making Shivin smile. Before now it was only his mom and Ahan who could make him smile genuinely. Gauri seemed to be doing that often by now.

"Same applies for you. What are you doing out here?" asked Shivin.

Gauri's smile faded, "I had a dream. Actually Maa..." Shivin understood the reason as to why she was awake at this late hour.

Giving her a sympathetic smile, Shivin hesitantly placed his hand on hers and gave it a light squeeze, "Gauri..."

The supporting touch was enough for Gauri to break down. Tears started coming out of her pretty eyes, "What will I say to Maa? Bhaiya was out last hope." She looked at Shivin, " You know Shivin, Maa gad to mortgage her jewellery for the restaurant Bhaiya said he wanted to start. I didn't go to college, studied via correspondence, had to work instead of studying. All this for what? Why it happened with us? Neither Maa nor I had done anything wrong then why us?"

Shivin wanted to hug her tightly, wanted to take away all her pain but before he could react, Gauri had her arms tight around his neck. Startled by the suddenness of the hug, Shivin stumbled a little but managed to stay stable.

Gauri was too devastated to think of what she was doing. She was broken by her brother's betrayal, she really needed someone to held on and Shivin provided her that kind of support.

"Maa will be shattered when she will come to know about what bhaiya did. I don't know how I am going to tell her about all this. I feel so helpless right now." She sobbed harder clinging to Shivin tightly.

Pain slashed across his chest, Shivin was trying hard to keep his anger under control. He knew how it felt like when your close ones betray you, his Mom had done same thing to him. So he knew what Gauri was going through. He wrapped his arms around her as tight as he could sitting on chair opposite to hers.

Caressing her hair he said, "Gauri life isn't fair. I know that right know you're dealing with more pains than the bits of happiness but believe me this time will pass. Think of it as the dark before dawn. Nothing worst could happen after this right?" Gauri nodded lightly.

"This was the worst and it happened, now only happiness would come." Shivin assured.

Gauri broke the hug and looked at Shivin, her eyes red and puffy. It broke Shivin's heart to see her in this state. "Promise?" Gauri asked, her tone childlike.

Shivin smiled at her, "Pakka Promise."

Staring into each other's eyes, they were holding hands tightly. Neither of them wanted to let go if this moment. Shivin could feel the cold breeze picking up its pace, the moon seemed brighter and bigger all of a sudden and he could swear he heard the song "Kuch Toh Hua Hai" playing in the background.

Feeling shy under his gaze, Gauri withdrew her hands from Shivin's hold and broke their sweet moment. It felt awkward, thinking to lessen it Shivin stood up and started walking inside the house, "We should get some sleep. Its really late."

Not wanting to face her, Shivin started walking away only to be stopped by Gauri, "Shivin.."

"Hhmm?"

"Why are you helping me? In this selfish world were even blood relations aren't trust worthy, from where did you came? Helping a girl you barely know, risking your life...You confuse me." Gauri blabbed.

Shivin let out a chuckle, "No need to get confused. My Mom taught me to help the one who needs it, it doesn't matter if you know the person or not. Its humanity." He shrugged as if it was nothing.

Gauri shook her head smilingly, he really was a great guy, "Thank you Shivin. Thank you so much."

"Thank you accepted. now come lets go." He started to walk away but was again stopped by Gauri, "Shivin..."

"Hhhmmm?" He asked raising his brows.

"You are not even half as bad as I thought you would be. You are really really nice guy. I am kind of glad that I met you." Gauri remarked.

He didn't know why but he really felt light, happy and little relieved to hear Gauri say that. Placing a hand on his chest above his heart, he said, "Thank you so much for your words of appraisal Miss Shukla. I feel honoured." he bowed a little making Gauri laugh.

"Shut up!" Gauri said as she laughed while walking inside leaving behind Shivin who had this goofy grin on his face as he felt he had accomplished something great by making Gauri laugh. Proud of making her laugh, he went inside as well.
