Oh, I agree that she should have been prepared for the consequences; but there is a difference in being prepared for the worst and deserving it. As a journo she should have been prepared, but its still not something that she deserves, to have a psycho after her.
And I am sure (though this is Ekta land, and nothing is logical here) that in real life, when journos do such dangerous assignments, the necessary precautions are taken beforehand. When my sister used to write for a national mag, she had to interview some murderers for some assignment, and her superiors took great care to make sure she would be safe - you know, police protection etc. So its not that the superiors will say "Here's your assignment - pretend to fall in love with a psycho" and throw her into the dragon's den. Besides, initially she just went to interview him a couple of times. It was when he started falling in love/obsession with her that the plan was changed.
