Hey all - this is just an attempt to rid myself of this excessive boredom and to find a new way to procrastinate😆😆

Ever wondered what the names of your favourite characters mean, and how far they resemble the person they are attached to? Well, I've always found this interesting - whatever her faults, Ekta K. does have a habit of finding somewhat suitable names for her characters - names that denote their personalities from the word 'go'. So, here goes my attempt to explain the meanings of some of these names...

Now, this is going to be confusing, as there is a HUGE turnover of characters in this show…so I'm going to try and assemble the list in alphabetical order! Wherever there is an unfamiliar/long-forgotten character, I will add their surname OR relationship in parentheses, and where there is more than one character with the same name, I will also add this in parentheses.

Ajay: Unconquerable, invincible (ironically! 😆 )

Ambika: goddess Parvati

Anamika (Garg): nameless, without a name. (One website told me it means 'ring-finger'…not too sure of the accuracy of that – anyone know?)

Aryan (Doshi): noble, son of an Arya

Ashlesha: A star

Ashutosh: Lord Shiva

Avantika: Name of a princess of Ujjain

Batukeshwar/Batuk: Batuk means 'boy'

Bharat: India, also the name of a monarch

Garima (Garg & Rai Chaudhary): warmth

Gaurav: Honour, pride, respect

Gauri: Another name for Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. Also means 'fair'.

Gayatri: 'The chant of salvation' > Gayatri Mantra, presumably. Also, Goddess Durga.

Gunn: Virtuous, full of virtues.

Ishaan: Another name for Lord Shiva

Kailashnath (Babuji's brother and Sasha's grandfather): A name for Lord Shiva, the 'Ruler of Kailash'.

Kamal:
Lotus flower

Khushi: Happiness

Krishna: Shri Krishna, son of Devki & Yasodha

Janki: Goddess Sita

Mallika (Doshi): Jasmine, Queen

Maithili: Sita

Manya (Doshi): worthy of honour

Mayuri (Mehra): Peacock

Meeta: Friend

Mitali: Friendship

Monalika: (couldn't find one – anyone know?)

Monica (Sasha's girlfriend): A wise counseller (very apt – she advised Sasha to give up his bad deeds!😉)

Neha (Garg & also Sonu's daughter): Found many – 'cherished', 'love', 'rain', 'beauty'

Neelam (Garg): Sapphire

Neeraj: Lotus, pearl

Nikhil (Mehra): Complete, whole, entire

Nivedita (Krishna's biological mother): one dedicated to service, surrendered

Om: The Sacred syllable, the Supreme Being

Parth: A name of Arjun, given to him by Shri Krishna

Parvati: Wife of Lord Shiva

Preeti: Delight, joy

Pragati: Progress

Pranay: love, romance

Rajeshwari (Mehra): Princess, Goddess Parvati (! 😆)

Swati (Dixit): Name of a star

Trishna: Thirst

Vikram Aditya: Vikram = bravery, Aditya = sun

Victory, glory.

Some interesting connections:

Gauri & Ishan = Ishan is another name for Lord Shiva, and Gauri is another name for Parvati, his wife. Thus, Ishan & Gauri become Lord Shiva & Parvati! 😳😆 (Not literally, I hasten to add!😆 What I mean is - their names suggest that they were always meant for one another!)

Maithili & Janki are both names of Goddess Sita.

Gauri & Parvati are connected through their names, as – ironically – is Rajeshwari! 😆 All three are names of the Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva.

Ashu & Ishan are connected by their names: both are names of Lord Shiva!!

And there you have it! Now you can all see the meanings of these characters' names and see which ones live up to them! A lot of them seem to be apt for when the characters were introduced – Rishika, Pranay, Deven etc – but as the show twisted and turned, the meanings were put aside…

This list is by no means extensive – these are just some names that I remembered off the top of my head. And it is quite possible that some of these names have other/more/different meanings. Feel free to add/correct me if you have better knowledge. Also, feel free to add any names I may have missed out😳

Hope you liked this topic...and now...back to the essay-writing😆

Thus, Ishan & Gauri become Lord Shiva & Parvati! 😳😆 (Not literally, I hasten to add!😆 What I mean is - their names suggest that they were always meant for one another!) Then what was that whole scene about Gauri and Shravan... for some reason, I don't think it ends just there...

Maithili & Janki are both names of Goddess Sita.

Gauri & Parvati are connected through their names, as – ironically – is Rajeshwari! 😆 All three are names of the Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. oh, the irony...😆

Ashu & Ishan are connected by their names: both are names of Lord Shiva!! and both are after the same woman, lord save them!😆

And there you have it! Now you can all see the meanings of these characters' names and see which ones live up to them! A lot of them seem to be apt for when the characters were introduced – Rishika, Pranay, Deven etc – but as the show twisted and turned, the meanings were put aside…I agree... many started out good and then the dark side blew up...

This list is by no means extensive – these are just some names that I remembered off the top of my head. And it is quite possible that some of these names have other/more/different meanings. Feel free to add/correct me if you have better knowledge. Also, feel free to add any names I may have missed out😳 Very impressive Vasu, thanks! You remembered so many... I've watched this show since day one and I had kinda forgotten some myself... Some you perhaps didn't list or I missed... Garima (Deven's wife)'s kids besides Sasha... actually, they were Rohan's kids. The boy and the girl. Also, Siddharth, Monalika and Aryan's son.😕

Hope you liked this topic...and now...back to the essay-writing😆 Lol... have fun! I'm sure you're creative juices are running high😆... or is it factual? In any case, I genuinely admire whatever you post... You have such a flare for words and are masti-fied!😆 Thanks for the lovely post. Hope the writing comes like you desired...

Cheers,

dc
