Rohit has had an epiphany. All it takes is a moment, after all. Epiphanies are almost always unguarded. And from what they've show, he is still in denial.
In his heart he has already moved on but the stubbornness that defines his persona, refuses to accept that. He holds on to physical things as they tie him almost compulsively. It's also a reminder of his fallibility. Surgeons tend to have a God-complex; and we all know, Rohit almost does.
As a surgeon, he is is supposed to be devoid of emotions in order to do his job. Clinical. Methodical. They've depicted him a somebody who shows no hesitancy in the treatment protocol because he has been trained to act so. Unfortunately, there is no manual for the matters of the heart. The best of people, and not just surgeons, have another side of them that not everyone could like or be privy to.
