Fun!
It has always been fun for Ankit to stay at Kulshreshta House. Being born and brought up in a nuclear family, he did not experience this fun and he was thankful to his wife for letting him enjoy this bliss.
He smiled watching his newly wedded wife animatedly talking to another recent bride Gungun - a perfect addition to their gang. Anyone who saw them would think them to be long lost sister.
He was woken from his staring session by a shrill voice of Dr. Maya - Gungun's mother a perfect embodiment of the evil stepmother he read about in one of his childhood stories. The irony is she is not step but a real mom. He could not comprehend the reason for Dr. Maya's absurdity with her own daughter. Strange lady indeed!
Dr. Riddesh had come to meet Gungun and her family before going on a medical trip. Dr. Maya forcefully tagged along obviously to create some havoc for she knew nothing else.
"Gungun! Actually main yahan tumhe or tumhre in-laws ko invite karne aayi hoon. It's a charity event organized by our medical association. You must be knowing it. Infact tumhara college bhi participate kar raha hai isme. "
Seeing Gungun's confused stare, Dr. Maya smirked. Finally, she got a chance to avenge the humiliations has faced at the hands of her daughter and her this so-called middle-class family in-laws. It was her turn now.
"But of course tumhe kaese pata hoga! Tum na hi itni talented ho or na hi tumhe kuch aata hai. Infact agar tumhare papa ne itne paese karch nahi kiye hote then you would have not been able to attend college also. So sad! Tum jaanke bhi kya kar leti."
All fumed listening to her mocking tone.
"Ho gaya aapka 'INSULT GUNGUN' session then please go! I am not interested! Na hi aapme, na hi aapse related kisi bhi cheez me. Please leave!" gave back a livid Gungun.
"Oh My Dear Daughter, agar tumne meri baat sunni hoti to aaj tumhe ye sab nahi sunna padta. Sometimes, I regret ki maine tum jaesi useless ladki ko paeda kiya I wonder Anubhav kaese jhelta hai tumhe. But of course wo bhi to tmhare hi jaesa hai batemeez or uske paas to paese bhi nahi hai." taunted Maya
All were appalled seeing the bitterness this lady was spewing for her own daughter and SIL,
"Bas aapne bahut apmaan karliye humare baccho ka. Aap mehman hai isliye humlog chup hai..." Goli Bua replied hotly but stopped seeing the look her Bhabhi was giving her.
Maya rolled her eyes expecting another round of lectures of sanskaar and seekh. An embarrassed Dr. Riddesh pulled Dr. Maya.
"Maya! That's enough.. apni beti ke liye zehar ugal rahi hoo. Sharam aani chahiye tumhe!"
"Jhooth kya bola maine Riddesh. Akhir kisi ko to reality check dena hoga na. Anyways, I'll wait for you guys tomorrow. And Gungun aana zaroor. I mean ashamed hone ki koi baat nahi hai I know it's above your status but so come to support your mom. Okay, beta" sneered Maya. Her sadistic self was enjoying the anger and hurt of everyone present there. She stood up and left enjoying her win.
Gungun sat numb. She had heard all these many times but she could not understand Why? Why did it hurt the same every time? She should get used to the hurt now. And now her husband was also dragged into this. He was ill wished and badmouthed because of her. She felt guilty. Chavvi tapped her to pull out of her musings. Gungun wiped her tears t. Yug sighed looking at the sad and silent faces of his ever-loud family.
"Gungun tum apni mom ki baato ka bura mat mano. Hum sab hai na! Hum participate karengi or aunty ko dikha denge ki we can also win." he encouraged.
"But itna asaan nahi hai Beta! Bahut dikkat hogi. I think aaplogo ko wahaan jaan hi nahi chahiye.. " Dr. Riddesh added.
"Papa! Mujhe ab iss baare me koi baat nahi karni hai .Or aap log bhi tension mat lijiye I am fine or kal koi aaye na aaye main to definitely jaungi. I want to show her ki mujhe koi farak nahi padta! Na unki jeet se na unki haar se. Main bahut thak gayi. I am going to rest."
Gungun silently went to her bedroom and cried herself to sleep.
//NEXT DAY//
Gungun sighed the tenth time in a span of 10 minutes. They were going to attend her mom's function. For once, there was pin-drop silence in the car. All reached the stadium. Gungun was moving towards the audience podium when she saw her husband along with the Golu gang and a few others warming up in the field.
"Ye log field me kya kar rahe hai bhabhi? Humari seats to yahan hai."
"Arre wo log audience thodi hai jo humare saath baethenge. Wo to particpants hai unhe match ki tyaari bhi to karni hogi."
"Match? But yahan to sirf football hota hai. Mujhe kuch samjh nahi aa raha?"
"Arre chal mere saath sab batati hoon."
She was pleasantly surprised to know that her family had participated. She felt disoriented and confused about the happenings around her.
"But ye sab kyu? Or ye plan kiska tha?"
"Ye sab kuch, saara plan tumhare chant chashmish ka hai."
Khushi told her all about how Anubhav had reached home late to see everyone sad and enquired the same from GC gang who told all about Dr. Maya's visit, how an angry Anu planned for revenge and convinced his dean to let them join in the event, how he made a team participate, his plans and strategies to play the game. Gungun felt her heart would burst with happiness. Her idiot who had not uttered a single word of comfort to her yesterday planned so much for this.
"Or nahi to kya! Tumhe pata hai usne kitne pappad bele, raat bhr jugaad krke ye team banyi hai tumhare crazy chashmish ne. Or to or ek din ki chutti li hai Anu ne sirf tere liye."
Gungun was surprised and overwhelmed seeing the love of the family and dare she say her husband. She felt happy to be surrounded by people who value her existence. She was smiling when her mother came with a haughty smile.
"Ohh you are here. Tumhari family bhi participate kar rahi wo bhi football match me?! I mean do they even know how to pass a ball." Dr. Maya laughed as if she had cracked a great joke.
"Kisko kya ata hai kya nahi ye to waqt hi batyega Mayaji. Chaliye abi match enjoy karte hai. " Sargam replied sweetly.
The next hour was very thrilling. Both the teams gave their best. The other team consisted of Ronny and many other skilled players. While one moved forward with skills, the other with strategy. Everyone was shocked to see this version of passionate Anu. He was leading them as a caption boosting their confidence, scoring goals along with Ankit and Yug as the center. The players were slowly getting exhausted. The exceptional teamwork of the three strikers had helped them to end up tied.
Ronny was frustrated seeing the gameplay of his opponents. He was confident that he would win and wanted to rub it on Anu & Gungun's face for insulting him. Seeing his plan failing he was frustrated. The whistle commenced the last round. Anu was carrying the ball avoiding the opponents when Ronny trapped his leg and he came tumbling down.
The Kulshrestha's got angry seeing the foul play. Gungun's heart came into her mouth. Everyone was shouting but she stood stunned seeing the nasty fall. She felt guilty somewhere she was responsible for the pain Anu was facing. Anu was made to stand as he had injured his left leg.
"Anu tu thik hai? Yarr uss Ronny ne jaan buj kar tujhe giaraya hai. Maine dekha hai yar wo kaese hass raha tha tere girne pe chi!!"
"Iss Ronny ki to main.."
"Chachu? Abi ye sab chodte hai let's concentrate on game. Iss harkat ki wajah se hume ek advantage mila hai. Ankit aap ye penalty kick kroge okay! Common buck up guys!"
Both team players lined up for the penalty kick. Ankit stood on striker position while others were alert. He kicked the ball towards the goal post and was about to about to be intercepted and blocked when Anu caught up and kicked the ball towards Yug who stood parallely and he scored a goal.
The crowed emerged with loud cries and cheering for the winner. The Kulshrestha's were the happiest. Gungun could not stop clapping and crying. She was so proud of her family. She knew they participated just for her. It was their way of revenge from her mother - truly the Sanskaari way!
"Yaayyy!! Hum jeet gaye! Hum jeet gaye."
All were shouting and screaming in happiness.
"Mujhe nahi pata tha ki Anu bhaiya itna accha football khelte hai."
"Haan devarji to bade chupe rustom nikle!"
The winning team were called for collecting their prize. The announcer asked for their team name to fill out the details. Gungun was surprised to see the name as Team Gungun. The players then returned to the benchers and was warmly greeted by their family.
"Yaay! Hum jeet gaye Team Gungun won! Ab to tu khush hai na beta." Golu chacha asked excitedly.
Hearing no response from Gungun, they turned to see her eyes stuck on her husband, Anu who was limping through the ground with the support of his colleagues.
"Lo bhai! Arre humne bhi winner hai par madam ki nazare to sirf Anu be tiki hai! Ohho" teased Yug.
As Anu reached near the boundaries, Gungun excitedly jumped over the fence leaving all gaping at her. She ran over to him and wrapped her hands around his body bouncing excitedly. The family stood shocked. A surprised Anu gathered her in his arm enjoying the feel of her petite body plastered against his own. Something he wanted to do since last night seeing her distressed wife. He closed his eyes losing himself in her warmth. He pulled her back gently and stared into her eyes.
"Congratulations! Tumhari team jeet gayi!" he softly uttered.
"Nahi humari team jeet gayi! Congratulations to you and thank you" Gungun uttered lovingly caressing his face. She hugged him tightly again. The family and friends snickered seeing their affection. Yeah! It was a deal marriage of 365 days with no strings attached.
The jealous trio stood far away burning. Dr. Maya was seething seeing Gungun and her family happy. Beside her stood another member Akriti, who had accompanied her lab mates to get closer to Anubhav on the pretext of cheering and was infuriated seeing these two romancing openly. Ronny cursed for missing the chance to get back at his ex-girlfriend.
Ankit cleared his throat. And pop! the pink bubble burst! The couple hurriedly left each other feeling remembering the place and the audience and stood at a distance. They felt awkward at their momentary lapse of control. Anu could see the teasing glances of his family and friends, he prayed to all the gods to control his blush. The soft and star-stuck expression of Gungun was not helping him. He shyly left her hand and cleared his throat.
"Gungun agar tumhara ladd pyaar ho gya ho to ghar chale?" Neeti bhabhi said placing arms around Gungun shoulders.
"Aaplog chaliye main ek minute me aata hoon. Excuse me!" excused Anu avoiding the eyes of all and left them.
"Arre Anu kahan jaa rahe?/ Anu bhaiya? / Are humare Scientist sahab!" All shouted and then broke into laughter.
"Arre aese kaese chala gay? Itni chot lagi hai fir bhi ghumna hai isse, dekha chachu! Chant aadmi!"
Gungun cribbed and complained while her worried eyes were constantly darting towards Anu.
"Dekh rahi hai Khushi kisko chinta hori hai!!" exclaimed Neeti Bhabhi with her over-dramatic expressions.
"Bhabhi please I am serious. Main jaa rahi hoon. Dekhun to akhir aesa kya important aa gaya hai iss Chashmish ko." grumbled Gungun and ran after her husband. Will the ever-curious GC gang miss this golden opportunity? Never. They too followed Gungun to see Anu standing at a distance conversing something with Dr. Maya.
"Mam Ek minute!"
Anu jogged stopped Maya by standing in front of her.
"Now what! Firse koi lecture leke aaye ho then I am not interested. You can celebrate your win with your family. So please excuse me?" replied an irritated Maya.
"No Mam, Kuch kehne aaya hoon. Maine sunna ki kal aap mere ghar aayi thi or aapne meri wife ki insult ki?" Anu said seriously. Dr. Maya was taken aback by the fury in his eyes. She had generally seen Anu relaxed, this angry Anu made her a bit uneasy.
"Oh Please! Wo sirf tumhari wife hi nahi meri beti bhi hai. Or maine to sirf sacch kaha tha or wo tumhe insult lage to main kya kar sakti hoon." she replied gathering he rcourage
"Gungun aapki Beti hai but wo meri wife bhi hai. Maine aapse pehle bhi warn kiya tha never to insult my wife. But shayad aap bhool rahi hai. Isiliye yaad dilane chala aaya. Iss bar mat bhuliyega." replied Anu. All were tensed seeing his cold attitude.
"Tum mujhe dhamki de rahe ho! Kya kar loge tum haan? Aukaad kya hai tumhari? . Iss Gungun ki wjah se aaj mujhe tum jaese do kaudi ke middle class aadmi se sunna pad raha hai. Useless girl."
Maya's yelled in frustration. Anu's eyes darkened and his face turned icy cold. GC gang flinched at the sudden shift in Anu's demeanor.
"Bas! bahut ho gaya ek shabd or nahi. Kya karunga main? Aapko Mr. Malhotra to maloom honge. Haan.. your hospital's largest shareholder. Unse meri acchi jaan pehachn hai infact unke bete ko maine tutions bhi diye hai. Agr aaj ke baad aapne Gungun ke bare me koi bhi anab shanab baat ki to mujhe do min ni lagenge to ask him to withdraw his investment."
Dr. Maya paled listening to him.
"Or haan! Gungun kya hai, kaesi hai ye mujhe ya meri family ko aapse jaane ki zarurat nahi hai or waese bhi aapne to use bachpan me hi chod diya tha na aap jaanti hi kya hai uske baare mein. So please apna ye drama kahi or dikhayega. I am proud of my wife aap chahke bhi uski tarah nahi ban sakti. Chalta hoon. Namaste!"
Gungun and co. were surprised to see this new and protective Anu. This was something new. They had never seen him so angry and talking to elders like this.
"Pta hai mujhe humesha se lagta tha ki Anu ke strict chehre ke peeche ek bahut naram dil hai, wo jab pyaar karega na to dil khol ke karega bilkul apni Gungun ki tarah. Or aaj usne ye saabit kardiya ki meri ye soch bilkul sahi thi. remarked a proud Golu.
"Tu kehti hai na Gungun ki Anu tujhe pyaar nahi karta, teri respect nahi karta, tujhe thoda sa bhi bhaav nahi deta. Dekh aaj tere liye usne ye game khela, itni mehnat ki. Wo Anu jo kabhi bado se zor se baat tak nahi karta tha aaj usne tere liye apna ye rule bhi toda." added Neeti.
Gungun felt safe and protected. She could not express herself, her throat clogged. She could not describe emotions. They all walked back to their place and sat remembering the confrontation.
After some time, Anu came back to see GC gang smiling proudly at him. He gave a confused look. Now, what happened he thought rolling his eyes and silently moving away from the crazy gang. Gungun instantly latched onto his arm, mothering and fretting over his injuries leaving him baffled at her odd behavior. He felt a bit shy on getting so much attention. He was finally at peace seeing her normal and smiling. He sat stretching his body and took his bottle to drink water when he heard
"Ankit! Congratulation"
Yug ran and jumped upon Ankit who took him in a hug while swaying with him and sweetly whispered.
"Ye meri nahi humari jeet hai! Aaaaa " re-enacting what Gungun did a few minutes back. Everyone started laughing seeing their drama.
Anu choked on water and started coughing loudly while an equal worried Gungun was constantly rubbing his back. He flushed red with embarrassment. Did they do this? That too in front of all? Oh, God! groaned Anu while trying to hide his red face with towel.
"Yug bhaiya ye aapne thik nahi kiya." Gungun said innocently. All the laughter died down dreading her next sentence.
"Chasmish ne mujhe or tightly pakda tha, haan ye haath kamar pe.. aese.. haan... or ye back pe... haan.. ab thik hai " Gungun replicated the scene step by step with utmost concentration. Anu was horrified seeing the act of his innocent wife.
"Gungun please chup ho jao." pleaded Anu trying to control his blabbermouth, hoping for once his wife agrees to his pleas.
"Kyu chup ho jau? Tum to humesha mujhe chup karate rehte ho. Main to bolungi. Kya galat bola maine..." trying to get free.
Suddenly Gungun stopped. All were confused seeing this. She wrapped her hands around her husband's neck while glaring at something at his back. Anu felt conscious seeing his wife holding him so intimately publically. He turned his head to see Ronny and Akriti standing there along with Dr. Maya. Gungun was out for revenge. Her mother had insulted her husband and she was not unaware of this rubber ki chipkali ogling over her husband. That idiot Ronny had deliberately made Anu fall.
She smirked and turned to look at her husband with shining eyes. Anu stood scared seeing the wicked glint in her eyes with his hands on her hips. She smiled devilishly and he knew he was doomed. His cute little devil was up to some mischief. God! Save him. The audience stood with bated breath.
Gungun tip toed and gently cupped Anu's face while loudly declaring " Congratulations Handsome!" she said and pecked on his cheek. The whole crowd gasped in shock. Some snickered while Yug whistled loudly expressing his delight. Gungun left the stadium holding her stunned husband's hand who wordlessly followed his firecracker wife .
