Sony TV to revamp declining prime-time

Sony Entertainment Television Asia is closely observing its waning weekday prime-time schedule by launching a slew of new shows.

The channel has been lagging behind rivals STAR Plus and ZEE TV for a number of months and beside 'Indian Idol', other shows have failed to make a mark on the all-important TRP (television ratings) charts.

According to a report in India's Financial Express, Sony TV performs the worst out of the three big channels in India between the crucial prime-time hours of 20:00 and 22:30.

Once 'Indian Idol' is through, Sony TV plans to axe the underperforming dramas that currently consist of 'Kajjal', Shobana Desai's 'Thodi Khushi Thode Gham' and 'Durgesh Nandini' and Smriti Irani's 'Virrudh' by replacing them with new soaps in the months of August and September.

Rohit Gupta, president-network sales, SET India confirmed the plans to Financial Express, "While the TRPs for these shows have gone down, the focus will be on the new shows which will be launched once Indian Idol 3 is through."

With the way things stand in India:
20:00
'Banoo Main Teri Dulhan' on ZEE TV wins the slot with a rating of 2.9 (according to rating agency aMap)

20:30
Balaji's 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay' dominates this slot on STAR Plus

21:00
Balaji's 'Kasamh Se' rules this slot on ZEE TV

21:30
ZEE TV has been leading the race with 'Saat Phere' in this slot but now faces competition from STAR Plus' 'Kasturi'

22:00 & 22:30
These slots command high TRPs with Balaji's longest running soaps 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' (3.8) and 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' (4.4).

For the entire prime time slot, Sony TV has lowest ratings for all the shows.

None of its shows rating is reaching even 1 TRP, according to the aMap data. An interesting fact here is that none of the prime time shows on Sony TV are churned out from Balaji Telefilms.

Kaajjal wont be axed.It comes at 8 pm.( not a major prime Time) And second it has highest Serial Trp for Sony.

The probelm is not the shows...But the channel itself! 😃

The 8 pm slot is now considered as a Prime Time slot!!! Doubtlessly, it's having the highest TRP, but the TRP's it's getting is also not good!!! It's lower than 1!!! Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, Kkusum, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin had a TRP of 3!!! Even Ye Meri Life Hai had a TRP of 2!!!

Kaajjal is definetely ending in September!!! Shreya Creations ruined the show by introducing Aditya!!! They should stick to Dev-Kaajjal story and the TRP's will go up and then the serial won't end!!!

Sony isnt creative at all..its not the fault of the soaps..They dont publicize the soaps the way STAR does.axing the soaps wont be of any help.😕

O god, i am already upset. why do they have to do it. please sony people, take everything away but not kaajjal. thats the only show that is good at sony.

Yes, but you'll have to admit that after Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, Kkusum, Jassi and Ye Meri Life Hai, Indian Idol has lost all its charm, isn't it!!!??? Even Ek Ladki Anjaani Si was excellent in the beginning!!! I can't see the magic in new Sony soaps that I could see in old soaps!!!

Now let's analyse : Aisa Des Hai Mera was bad ( Poor direction, no story ), Kulvaddhu ( Dragged a LOT, Not really a good story ), Risshton Ki Dor ( Pathetic Drama, Story changed 20 times, Poor Direction ), Kabhi To Nazar Milao ( Bad Starcast, DRAGGED A LOT, No Story at all )!!!

Now, TKTG ( No sound effects, poor direction, story is not magic ), Durgesh Nandinii ( Female lead is not young so not attractive, no good story ), Ek Ladki Anjaani Si ( Excellent in the beginning, Now that Kanchi Kaul is out from the show : Ruined show by Sai Deodhar, No Story at all, Dragging : Bring Kanchi Back😳 and the magic will be back😳!!!), Kaajjal ( Excellent in the beginning, good starcast but Shreya Creations ruined the show )!!!

Even if Kaajjal is better than other shows, people are not watching it because all the other dramas are bad on Sony after Kaajjal!!! People watch a channel only if they get back to back entertainment!!!

there s no point in ending t shows..if they have to gain trp's they should work and improve it in a way that entertain t audience...even if they start new shows and if t same condition goes on then what s t use..it wont b a wise decision to end kaajjal ..kaajjal s a show which have excellent star cast and a better story line...the story of Dev n Kaajjal s loved by every one but now t creative s spoiled t show by keeping dev n kaajjal separate ...once they bring dev n kaajjal together they ll get back on track and it wont b necessary to end t serial.....

rahaman JJKN kyph were another generation..when sony was no 2 and Givng comeptition to Star...so almost all its soaps have good trps...

Eg..even a bad soap on star has great Trps....Sony can keep axing soaps.....A great soap like Viruddh isnt getting trps.
