well no one knows exactly what happened to Dev two years ago that caused him to change. what the viewers do know is that it involved a girl that Dev loved immensly and that the girl either left him or something happened as a result of which Dev couldn't be with the girl anymore. they still haven't revealed exactly what happened, but they show Dev thinking that if he loves Kaajjal (or any other girl) then she and/or their love will have the same fate as what happened two years ago and he doesn't want to put her through any trouble/tears. he knows that Kaajjal loves him and so he's trying to be mean to her so that she won't love him anymore, so she doesnt have to go through the pain.

What happened with Dev 2 yrd back tht is still a mystery.

The only thingn revealed is tht Dev was in love with a girl named Devika who left him on 23rd Nov.What happened b/w the 2,y she left him has not been shown yet.

Dev is being rude to Kaajjal as he thinks whoever he gets close 2 goes away from his life never to return back.He admits Kaajjal is special to him but doesnot wants the shadows of his dark past fall over her.
