Jyoti tells Pankaj that she is busy, and will talk to him later. He sarcastically tells her that he knows that she's w/ her friend, so it's unreasonable to expect her to give Pankaj Kabir's time. He adds that he called to tell her that he received her gift, but going forward, in his life, there is no place for this or such gifts. He tells her to stop doing all this đ (thank you, Pankaj, since Jyoti is too much of a doormat to stop doing this on her own)
Jyoti wipes her tears, and turns to Kabir, who is still waiting. Kabir says to himself that there's one fool who threw Jyoti out of his life, and then there's himself, whose fallen in love w/ a girl who still can't forget her hubby (give it time, Kabir, give it time) He says that life has taken him to a fork in the road, which he cannot select. Jyoti asks him what he's thinking. He tells her that he's trying to remember what her smile reminds him of. He then tells her that it reminds him of roshni, sunrise... He asks her what's wrong, why she has tears in her eyes, and she asks him what he wants. He tells her that he wants her to smile, and Jyoti looks @ him, and then smiles @ his wish. Kabir is elated.
Next morning, in bed, Kabir's phone rings, and after some hesitation (I like how he covers his head w/ another pillow to avoid answering - I could teach him how to ignore it altogether đ), he answers it. It's Jyoti. She asks him whether he's sleeping @ this time (why do you care - he's not your bf) and he says he's not sleeping, he's preparing for a meeting on a show. He asks her to bring extra food for him in her tiffin.
Padma calls Jyoti and tells her that they are going out and will eat out, so not to prepare their food. She and Poonam are all decked up and loaded w/ gifts. After they leave, Sushma asks Dadi where they're headed, and Dadi tells her that they are going to the godh bharai of the Vermas. Sushma asks her when this ceremony takes place, and Dadi tells her that in the 7th month of pregnancy in the sasural. Sushma notes to herself that she too is 7 months pregnant, and Jyoti notices the sad look on her face.
In his home, Brij is in bed and coughing. He mourns that there is no one to give him water (just like the woman cursed him yesterday) and stretches for the glass on his bedside table, but knocks it over. He goes to his table, opens his drawer, and after some digging, sees a photo of Sushma (this was really uncalled for đĄ - he regularly used to cheat on her even when she was w/ him, so how come he has her photo? People who cheat on their spouses don't have their photos lying around) and tells it that he's tortured her a lot, and she won't forgive him (given the grovelling nature of this family, don't rule it out)
He then goes to a neighbor and asks her to call somebody to get him some meds, since he's feeling very sick. Another neighbor joins them and tells her not to, pointing out that he's an alcoholic, and when he's drunk, he abuses anybody! đđ He cites the example of the woman that Brij abused yesterday. Brij tries to apologize for that, saying that he was not sober, and another woman tells him to return to his family and apologize to them: given how much he's tortured them, this is nothing! He needs to grovel before them. The woman whose door he was knocking closes her door on him and everybody leaves. đđ
Padma & Poonam return home, and are all in praise of the party they went to. Padma praises the food that was offered, and Poonam tells her that Padma too danced today. They are all busy yakking away about how great a party it was, and Sushma, who's watching this from the kitchen, turns away and hides, full of sadness. Jyoti notices this.
Jyoti and Kabir are sitting on the field during lunch. Kabir asks him what's bothering her, and she tells him that she can't tell him. Kabir tells her that since he's a friend, she can. Jyoti says that it's personal, for which he can't do anything, and Kabir is up to the challenge đđ and tells her that that makes it more interesting. Jyoti gives up, and tells him that today, her mom went for someone's godh bharai, and Sushma is in her 7th month, and... She then tells him that he doesn't know.
Kabir tells her that he knows that Sushma went through a lot at a very young age and he thinks she has every right to the happiness of a godh bharai. He tells Jyoti that everyone should get together and give her this happiness. He looks @ Jyoti and asks her what the problem is - they can organize this for her, dancing, singing, everything. They'd make it memorable for Sushma.
Jyoti agrees, but asks him how they'll do it? Kabir reminds her that he owns an events management company. Jyoti points out that it would be a family function, and Kabir tells her that he is her family đ... er her family, friends, relatives all would be there. Jyoti tells him that they aren't that big, and Kabir tells her that she's probably worried about where this will be held. He calls his mausi, talks to her and then tells Jyoti the hall has been booked in his name (wow, that was fast!!!) and it's all taken care of. Jyoti asks him about the cost, and he tells her that it would be sponsored, and the hall is his mausi's, so no expense. Jyoti is relieved and happy to hear this, and asks where do they start? He tells her that by searching for the smile on Sushma's face.
In his room, Brij is drinking away. He has recollections of his friend posing as the doc and telling Sushma about his imaginary illness, and how Sushma so innocently and earnestly swore not to let anything happen to him. He recalls how he slapped Sushma and otherwise abused her. He is angry & upset, and knocks off a bottle, and curses himself for how he treated her. He recalls how he treated her on the day she told him that he was about to become a father. He curses himself for treating her that way when he knew that it was his baby that she was carrying. He then knocks off the table and all the alcohol, telling himself that he has no right to live (hey, you're resourceful - get your hands on some cyanide and end your misery - and ours)
Brij goes to the street outside the Sharma home, and sees Sushma hanging out the clothes. He gets even more flashbacks of her, while seeing her. He coughs, and even @ a distance, Sushma hears it and thinks she's heard Brij. Brij quickly hides so that she can't see him. She thinks it was an illusion. Brij tells himself that he can't even go near his wife or kid. (Both this, and the above Brij scene @ his home was highly irritating)
Kabir and Jyoti are in his jeep, discussing the godh bharai plans, and he tells her to conceal it from Sushma, so that it'll be a surprise. Jyoti tells him that she won't thank him (what's this hang-up people have w/ thank yous - it's purely a show of appreciation, not an act of grovelling) She tells him that he's doing so much - and Kabir asks her if she's suspicious of his motives? She assures him no, and he tells her that his nani used to tell him that as you give, you shall receive. Kabir tells her that whatever he's doing, he's doing for himself. Jyoti tells him that he can't be selfish - that much she's figured out about him. She tells him that she's never met anybody like him. He is very special to her (Kabir, your opportunity to open up your heart to her is coming soon) Kabir puts up a groaning act, and says that he can't stand so much praise. His stomach hurts, and then he'd have to go home and throw up. Jyoti bursts out laughing, and Kabir enjoys this scene. â¤ď¸
After dropping her, Kabir is driving home, and 'co-incidentally', Brij comes and collapses in front of his car. Kabir gets down, and a whole bunch of other people also get there to see what's wrong w/ Brij, and Kabir offers to take him to a hospital. They get to the hospital, and Kabir tells Brij that the doc will be w/ them shortly. Brij tells Kabir that he didn't recognize him, and Kabir tells him that he's a human being, who did it out of humanity. Kabir offers him a water, and he declines. He says that whether he survives or not won't make a difference to anyone. Kabir asks him for the phone# of his family or relatives, and he'll let them know. Brij says that nobody will come, as he's sinned a lot. He says that god gave him a wonderful wife, who he just abused. He starts sobbing (Oh, spare us this drama!!!) and says that he said really ugly things about his own kid, and he deserves to be punished for it.
Brij then pulls out his wallet and looks @ a picture in it. He then praises her, and says that he's abused her a lot. He puts the wallet on his lap & starts sobbing. Kabir looks @ the photo, and is stunned to see that it's Sushma.
Brij tells Kabir that he now prays that someone kills him. However, if it is at all possible, he'd like one last chance to meet w/ Sushma, so that he can admit to her everything he did wrong. Kabir asks him - one opportunity? Brij says yes. One last chance.
I found this episode really irritating. The only good part was Brij's neighbors rebuffing him and him being the object of opprobrium for being an alcoholic, a spouse abuser and all else. Even that was inadequate - he should have been stoned, or beaten w/ shoes. Other than that, this was really annoying.
It's one thing to show poetic justice for Brij, but to suggest a track where he tries to get together w/ Sushma is ridiculous. I know they haven't come to it as yet, but wouldn't Sushma have a stay order ordering Brij not to come within a certain radius of her? I really wish that Kabir had somehow known the entire story of Sushma - maybe from Sushma herself when she was returning w/ him - so that he'd know the magnitude of Brij's crimes. Most irritating were the repeated flashbacks that they showed of him regretting how he treated Sushma.
Also, Brij is still an alcoholic - just b'cos he knocks off a few bottles in his rage doesn't make him less alcoholic. And he is ill. If the Sharmas do what Kabir tries and take him back, he'd just be one more liability on the family. Unless he's going to periodically blackmail Bhairavi, but this they would be against: if they wanted money from Pankaj, they could have taken it in alimony. The only positive about Kabir's meeting w/ Brij - he can hear the whole unadulterated truth from Brij himself, and not have to depend on anything Jyoti or Sushma tells him, thereby sparing them that pain and embarrassment.
The other thing surprising was Padma and Poonam going to a neighbor's godh bharai, and not the others. Okay, granted Padma doesn't like Jyoti and won't take her anywhere, but how about Sushma & Dadi? Wouldn't it have made sense for them to go as well? Or is Sushma too going to be unwanted b'cos of the fact that she's @ her maaykas?
Oh, I like Pankaj telling Jyoti not to observe any more rituals on his behalf. Thank you!!! That would leave Jyoti free for Kabir. I liked Jyoti expressing her appreciation to Kabir, and telling him that what he did went beyond friendship. Of course, I expect that to be bruised once he brings Brij in, but aside from that, I hope their relationship progresses further.
Episode rating: đđźđđź
Pluses: Kabir & Jyoti deciding to throw Sushma a godh bharai, Brij getting his just deserts from his neighbors, and finding himself isolated
Minuses: The entire Brij track of his remorse, and his 'accidental' meeting w/ Kabir
