Jyoti opens the letter and then answers Pankaj, but tells him that he'd call him later, when she overhears Poonam crying and Deepu scolding her, demanding to know whether her parents hadn't taught her anything of when and how to talk to other people? 👏👏 Padma decides that she needs to intervene and explain things to Deepu. Jyoti stops her and explains to her that Deepu isn't just his son, but Poonam's husband as well, and that she needs to let them solve their problems. Padma says that they are still kids, so what do they understand? KK tells her that if she keeps sheltering them, they'll remain kids. She needs to let them stand, walk and fall on their own. Jyoti backs him up. 👏👏
In Deepu's room, Deepu tells Poonam that she's just been here 2 days, and already, she's become a major pain to just about everyone - hot water, saris, bigger rooms... Is she still a kid? He emphasizes that she is married, and tells her to stop crying, nothing has happened. 👏👏 He leaves the room, wondering how to explain things to her. In the living room, he sees that everyone is staring @ him. He then goes to Sushma, and demands to know why she wants this sari, where exactly is she going to go in this sari? Who's inviting her to a big party? Does she even know how ridiculous she'd look in that sari? Everybody is now shocked to hear Deepu, and KK is furious @ his manner of talking. Deepu tells him that Sushma has lost her mind, and is about to slap her, when Jyoti yells @ him to stop. Deepu asks her to desist, saying that he knows what he is doing. He knows that he's not doing the right thing by losing his temper, but what else can he do? He then leaves the room. 👏👏
Sushma is crying, and Padma goes to comfort her. She tells her that he's actually mad @ Poonam, even though neither of them is @ fault: Poonam is unaware of this custom, and is still a kid (unlike Sushma?) Dadi gets furious @ says that Poonam's not that young, but just lacks manners: her parents haven't taught her anything. Instead, they've completely spoilt her. 👏👏 Padma criticizes her for escalating tensions when she's trying to diffuse it. She tells Dadi that since the bahu arrived, she's always been picking out faults in her. KK looks @ her annoyed. Padma continues that it's as if only she wanted Deepu to marry, and no one else did.
Dadi is now upset, and goes to KK and threatens to return to her village. KK tries to pacify her, but Dadi tells him that he's just watching her get insulted on behalf of Poonam. Jyoti asks her why she is now just adding to the tensions, since as it is, the atmosphere @ home has so deteriorated. Sushma wants a sari, Poonam doesn't want to give it, Deepu is yelling @ Sushma for no reason,... Is this the basis for blowing an issue like this out of proportion? Sushma protests that she's become the object of ridicule, and then recounts all her miseries, culminating in losing her room, and finally says that she's not a beggar, and gives Jyoti the sari and leaves. Dadi too leaves. Jyoti puts the sari back into the suitcase 👏👏 and offers KK tea. KK asks her to have it as well if she makes it.
Jyoti starts preparing the tea, and then returns to that letter. She reads it and is shocked. She calls back Pankaj and he asks her what she's decided. Jyoti angrily tells him that she can't discuss this over the phone, and she needs to meet him, and he asks where? They agree on a place.
Padma comes to Jyoti and tells her that she needs to discuss something. She tells her that since Poonam is the only child of a rich family, who's been pampered, she's having all the difficulties that she's been having. She's afraid of what will happen if Deepu keeps scolding her like this. She suggests that they both be sent somewhere on a honeymoon, 😡 so that they can understand each other after spending some time together. Jyoti tells her that she's totally out of money, after having spent it all on the marriage. Padma makes a sarcastic comment that this is their situation (I'm surprised she didn't blame Jyoti for not accepting alimony), but tells Jyoti that if their relationship deteriorates, they'll be regretting it. These should be their happy days, but it isn't. Jyoti reluctantly tells her that she'll try, and Padma tells her that she can fix anything, and hopes that the sooner it happens, the better. 😡😡😡
The room exchange takes place, w/ them moving Jyoti's things into the store room. Dadi makes a sarcastic comment, and tells Sushma to join her in the smaller room @ the behest of begum sahiba. Deepu and Jyoti are in the store room, and Deepu apologizes to Jyoti for yelling @ her & Sushi. He however dispairs of what to do, faced w/ this situation of Poonam's difficulty in adjusting, and him being caught in between. He has no idea who to listen to, and whose side to take.
Jyoti tells him that she's glad to hear that he's aware of this. She explains that he now has 2 relationships, both of which he has to carefully manage. There are times he'll have to take the side of his wife, and times he'll have to take the side of the rest of his family, and nobody will tell him which one is right. That's something he has to determine for himself. Deepu tells her that that room isn't right for her, but Jyoti tells him that she's tired, and to leave and let her sleep.
In Pankaj's home, CM wants to know why Jyoti still wants to meet him? She's signed the divorce, so what else does she want? These papers are very important, and the divorce papers are not adequate. Jyoti has to sign those. She then goes into her usual spiel of how Pankaj did a lot for Jyoti and she did nothing in return, and tells him that regardless of how he does it, she has to be forced to sign these papers. She tells him that if these are not signed, he'd never be free from Jyoti's maneuvering. 😡😡😡
Jyoti tells her folks that she can't sign it, and in response to Padma, she can't take the side of falsehood. 👏👏 Padma tells her that she's signed the divorce papers before, so it shouldn't matter to her. 😡😡
Deepu may have regretted blowing his top, but I for one laud him for reading the riot act to both Poonam and Sushma, both of whom needed it. Poonam is so thick headed that even when he's spelt it out, she didn't ask for the rooms to stay as they were. Nonetheless, she needed this, and I just wish she had heard from Dadi what Dadi had to say about her. With Sushma too, Deepu did the right thing in demanding why she had to be so insistent on this sari to the point of creating such a scene. At the end of it, the sari is returned. Now, if only the same was done wrt the rooms.
I liked Dadi as well, although on her threat to return to her village, she should consider taking Jyoti w/ her at least, and let the great Padma run things. Padma has had a ball bossing Jyoti around, so let's withdraw that, and then see her slave to Poonam and Sushma. In a way, I'm glad @ Padma's predicament of having to manage this Poonam vs Sushma duel, although I sympathize w/ Deepu and Jyoti on this.
I wish Jyoti had been more assertive w/ Padma on her honeymoon, and simply told her NO. What would Padma have done had Jyoti's marriage still been just fine, and she was still @ her sasural? It's just her luck that Jyoti is back, but looking @ the demands, they would have had a meltdown. Jyoti should tell her that she's done w/ expenses, and anything else Padma needs, she needs to get from elsewhere. And she needs to do it in front of KK & Deepu, w/ the same assertiveness that she showed w/ Bhairavi @ the wedding.
I didn't get the part on the divorce papers - if Jyoti has signed off on this, what else does she need to sign on, and why would it have to be perjurious for the divorce to happen? At any rate, if she can't sign it, she should simply have told Pankaj no over the phone, and told him to get lost.
