Mumbai, Monday, February 22nd 2010: This March, Imagine unveils two riveting new shows Kashi & Jamunia . These two emotive back-to-back sagas will trace the journey of the two young girls Kashi & Jamunia. Both shows hit television screens from March 8th, Monday – Friday at 8.00 pm and at 8.30 pm respectively.
Produced by Film Farm India Pvt. Ltd, Kashi is set in a remote village in Bihar called Dholkipur, which is strongly caste divided where caste hierarchies are strictly maintained. It is the story of a seven year old girl called Kashi, who dreams of learning and of getting herself educated. However every small step that Kashi & her parents take towards achieving their daughters dream is met with stiff resistance from the upper caste sections & the powerful elites of the village, who leave no stone unturned to ensure that Kashi does not do anything to upset the balance of power and the division of society that has been prevalent for centuries. The issue of right to education will find reference in Kashi's struggle. Jannat Zubair Rahmani will be seen essaying the title role of Kashi, while popular actor Sai Deodhar Singh will be making a comeback on television through this show.
Jamunia produced by Beyond Dreams Entertainment Limited, is a heart rendering story of an orphan girl called Jamunia, whose maternal uncle marries her off into a rich haveli for money. What Jamunia does not know is that this rich haveli is cursed and no woman has ever survived there. What happens to Jamunia forms the basic plot of this highly intriguing show. Bhavna Khatri will be seen playing the title role of Jamunia, while this show will simultaneously also mark the acting debut of Manmohan Tiwari (Rakhi Ka Swayamvar fame) as Awadh Thakur.
Commenting on Jamunia, Yash Patnaik producer of Beyond Dreams Entertainment Limited said, "Jamunia is a tale dedicated to every Indian woman who loves her family dearly and is ready to help and support them in any given situation. It portrays the power of a woman who can go to any extent to save her family from any harm that befalls them. Jamunia exposes the territories and locations never seen on television. We are privileged to produce this show for Imagine."
Pintoo Guha producer of Film Farm India Pvt. Ltd said, "We live in a country where even today the caste system is prevalent. Kashi is set in one such village of rural India in which a five year old girl's only wish to study is met with innumerable hurdles. This story reflects the situation of those areas of our country where education of a girl child has been a problem since a very long time. Kashi reflects the hopes and dreams of all the girls who aspire for good education and a better life."
