Actually, defanging Brij is a lot easier. Once Jyoti's in-laws know all about the relationship b/w Brij & the Sharmas, it's Brij who loses a great deal, not just Jyoti and/or Sudha. Brij is not witholding his knowledge of Jyoti from the Vashisths out of any generousity, as he told Sandeep yesternight. He is doing that b'cos the longer the Vashists don't know, the longer he can blackmail the Sharmas.
But once the Vashisths know all, then for Brij, as far as the Sharmas go, it's over for him even in terms of his blackmailing power. The only reason Sushma has been getting money to him has been to save Jyoti, but once Jyoti makes it open, then the Sharmas have no reason to pay Brij, and can in fact go after him via the police. His only hope then would be the Vashisths, who'd understandably be pissed at the Sharmas, would continue to befriend him, but it's hard to see even that happening. After all, once the Vashisths know that Brij has been witholding from them his relationship w/ Jyoti for his own mercenary ends, they'll get rid of him like they'll get rid of Jyoti.
So it's not necessary for Brij to die or be tortured - just destroy his ability to make life miserable for the Sharmas, and he'll be destitute.
