I am thoroughly disappointed by many of the judges' decisions.
First of all, I am completely appalled that Sanjay was not chosen! That kid was just the most adorable and sweetest thing on this show; and so talented! Girls like Trishala come and go - if everyone had enough energy, they could do what she did. But some of Sanjay's moves were "mindblowing" (to quote Hrithik), and he had a lot more "potential" than her. He definitely deserved to be there. I'm sad they didn't even show us his audition during the audition stage - I would've loved to see that. His elimination just broke my heart. I mean, how
adorable and sweet was he?! And how beautiful was the t-shirt he stitched for Hrithik?! What a talented kid! 😍 😔
Secondly, how the heck was Aman "overconfident"?! While watching his group perform, the first thing I said was: "He is the star of this group." Rimpi and Mayuri paled in comparison to him - not sure why the judges were praising them so much. Rimpi's performance was very weak (seriously, any girl can dance like that if they want to; there was nothing unique about it - it was messy and all over the place). I feel like Hrithik only thought Aman was overconfident because Ayushmann kept playing up the fact that he was a "champion" in Ludhiana. Aman definitely didn't act as though he thought he had this in the bag, so I don't agree with Hrithik's judgement - he's a great dancer and did a much better job than the two girls.
If there is anyone who thinks they're already a champion - in my opinion (and I stress this strongly because I know there will be a lot of opposition from this forum! I apologize in advance, haha!) - it is Karan. He comes off as someone who already believes he's a star. (I mean, what the heck is up with giving Vaibhavi/Farah a card with your face on it? Weird. 😕) I found Ashish (the classical dancer) to be beautifully graceful and a pleasure to watch... and Karan really fell way behind him in today's performance. Part of Karan's appeal, I think has to do with how much he is getting "pimped" (for lack of a better word, and a word used usually when discussing shows like "American Idol") by the judges and by the show. If you've watched "American Idol", you'll notice there's always one or two contestants that the judges love to broadcast and praise at any chance they get. I feel like this show is using the same type of tactics. Granted, Karan is good, but this constant "you are amazing, you are one of the best dancers, etc, etc" is so over-the-top and extremely annoying. Contestants such as Ashish and Soochna who are equally as talented deserved it just as much - if not more. Karan is way too overhyped! 👎🏼
Another contestant in the same category as the above is Meher Malik. Frankly, I think she was the weakest link in today's group performance. Yes, she is an amazing belly dancer; but didn't Hrithik mention today that they are looking for someone who can dance anything? Someone well-rounded who can dance any style? I didn't see that in her today. She seemed to fumble during many of the steps and wasn't as graceful as others. Namita did a much better job than her! Again, a lot of "pimping" by the judges is helping Meher's case even though she's not that great.
Even Nimit - as much as I love his story and he looks like a great son with a good head on his shoulders, his solo was not technically breathtaking. But I still like him and glad he made it to the Top 20. There are two or three others that I like who also made it to "Dance Camp". But Sanjay should have made it, too! (Ah, I'm still bitter about his elimination! )
Some others I was sad to see go: Gauri, Ajay, Dinanath - all with beautiful stories and talent that touched my heart and made me shed a few tears.
Favourite group performance: The contemporary dance on the song "Te Amo" - partly because I love the song, haha, but the group was extremely well-coordinated and looked like pros. 👍🏼
For the most part, I'm not completely thrilled about this Top 20, but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks...
This is all just my opinion. I apologize if I've offended anyone. This is all healthy discussion - so any strong Karan and Meher fans out there (and I know there are a lot!), please don't hate on me now, haha. 😊
