Of course NOT in Uttar Ramayan. For i do not find Uttar Khand credible from any angle. It is full of chauvinism and casteism. The picture of perfection Shri Ram would have NEVER ordered his pregnant wife into the jungles, exposing the unborn to dangers. He who included even vanars and animals into his fold and was benevolent to all would have NEVER beheaded a low caste for performing tapasya as it was against rules as is described in Uttar Ramayan. The Yuddha Khand ends with Phala Sruti, i.e., the good effects of doing parayan of the epic which normally is the concluding phase of epic poems/prayers etc.

I believe the whole Uttar Ramayan is fabricated and inserted by the chauvinists later on.

As for the agnipariksha, Ram was taking back to Ayodhya not just his wife but also the Queen. And the image of the queen among the subjects waa very vital. That was why even much much later, Akbar refused to allow Salim to marry a dancer. Even in SS Mahendra Pallavan refuses the Mamallan-Sivakami alliance. Why, even in today's broad minded thinking t he 'image' of the first citizen and his/her spouse is very important. Not just political even personal.

After having stayed in Lanka there would surely have been comments and hushes among the public. The agnipariksha was to quell them all knowing fully well that she would come through it successfully. Such was probably his trust in her.
