Such longing in their eyes!

If I could dream
The dream I wanted to,
I would close my eyes,
And dream a dream for you.

I would give you all the world,
That you are deserving of,
And to you I would give
My everlasting love.

I would see to it
That you were never sad
And nothing in your life
Would ever happen bad.

I would wish for you
All things would go your way,
And you would always be happy,
Each and every day.

So so so true
In my dream
You would stay
Just as beautiful
As you are today.

☺️

Life for you would be as perfect
As the blueness of the sky,
And no one would ever hurt you,
Or ever make you cry.

😭

I know it's just a dream,
But if dreams could come true,
I would close my eyes
And dream a dream for you.

Soul stirring, Periyamma!

What a gem to be unearthed from the archives! Sandy... where are you? Your legacy lives on...

The First poem of Sandhya in HBSA thread..

THE TALE OF THE FARMAAN...

Starts off with a beautiful picture

I was drafted as a special deed, and carried the seal of Royalty

An assurance from the Ruler, to his faithful, valuing his Loyalty

The words on me bore a promise, that the rights of his beloved land

Would be his daughters' inheritance, by the Emperor's command

I was stored in the safest places, with utmost respect and care

By the man and then his daughters, as I proved who was the heir

All was fine till it happened, that the lands mentioned in me

Lured the attention of many, by a recent discovery

They were found to be a treasure trove, for beneath their fertile earth

They contained abundance of iron ores, that multiplied their worth

For his army and treasury and greed, the prince sought to seize

The precious realm I authorized, quelling his father's decrees

Between my hunters and holders, I became a bone of contention

My hunters wanted to destroy me, and my holders sought its prevention

My presence meant that the heiresses, were legal holders of the domain

My absence gave the astute prince, a chance to cleverly gain

The daughters sought my safety, because my safety meant

Preservation of the green valleys, that mining would otherwise dent

The elder heiress took me out, of the safe in which I was kept

"You are the tether and saviour of my lands", she said and wept

"I must protect you from dangers, and produce you at the court

To safeguard my esteemed lands, I need your presence and support.

Till then I'll hide you somewhere, a place where none can guess

To find you, they will need every ounce of resourcefulness they possess"

She placed me secure in a box, and took me down the huge hallways

"I'll not lose sight of you", she said, "I'll oversee you always"

She sowed me in a huge stone planter, partly hidden by drapes

Watched over by her painting across, obscure to those who traipse

The twin portraits of the sisters, appeared to share the task

"Will you grow to save us, or betray us", they both seemed to ask

The sublime scents from the courtyard, of the herbs, medicinal and rare

Was tranquil and I lay dreaming, when I was jolted by the nightmare

The hunters were shown the way within by her betrothed, an evil louse

They killed the guards, they killed the helpers, they killed everyone in the house

Till she was left to battle alone, yet she displayed courage and dare

She fought them though outnumbered , with verve and valour rare.

She never disclosed my location, though they tormented her every breath

She deceived them with my imposter, she succeeded even in death

The younger heiress returned and was shocked at the terrible loss

She stood crying near the portrait, unknowing that I just lay across.

Faced with the threat of a similar fate, she had to flee from her home

And I for whom these lives were lost, lay still beneath the loam.

I was remorseful that I had caused, such bloodshed and such losses

Were irreplaceable lives worth losing, for such materialistic causes?

What do strifes and wars achieve, except destruction and pain?

By killing and inflicting horrors, what does anyone stand to gain?

Isn't peace more precious, than the profits of a thus clinched goal?

Isn't victory worse than a loss, that is gained by ripping one's soul?

As days rolled by I lay rueing, and a few sought me but in vain

Until a stranger dropped in, with assurance and methods trained

He searched around the mansion, thoroughly and at last he slowed

As he neared the twin paintings facing me, I thought he slowly bowed

To my elder mistress he offered, a courteous adab sincere

His acknowledgement of her qualities, brought out his own nature clear

Before the younger he stood still, his eyes brimmed with emotions strong

He stretched his hand and then held back, wondering if he was wrong

But his heart held sway and he yielded, for a while before he stepped away

And turned around to where I hid, towards me he made his way

I held my breath as he dug into the soil in which i lay concealed

He lifted the box that held me, broke the clasp and I was revealed

The world seemed to freeze for a moment as he held me in his hands

He too seemed immobilized that he held the key to everyone's plans

I could serve the Prince's purposes if the stranger hands me over to him

Or I could save the valleys and its dwellers from a future grim

Undoubtedly I hold powers, powers that are frantically sought

But are they really stronger than, the power of the stranger's heart???

Sandhya.

I cannot pick out one particular line (like I usually do) to highlight the beauty of it... because each word, each clause, each line, each para is beauty in itself... it would be injustice to do that... and how moving it is it to read the story as it unfolds from the eyes of an inanimate object... as if it were 'destiny' itself... almost as if it were God's own voice...
ironical too... that it held such influence, and yet no power to alter the events as IT deemed best!

This whole thing got me thinking again... and really a marvel of Sandy this was, is and will be!👏
Thank you for this Sandy and Periyamma for bringing it back into the limelight 🤗

Aparna - We didn't make our doggy a baby sitter. He took that upon himself. 😆 . He was there before the baby and he was very protective. We didn't need to have a baby monitor in the room. All we had to see is, his doggy's ears stand erect the moment he heard a stir in the baby's room & he would go stand at the bottom of the stairs & have a special whine to alert us.😆

So glad to hear that your bundle of joy is going to be a girl. Are you doing any Lamaze classes? Your Mom coming over is going to be helpful. How many months would you get off from work? In our days we got 3 months here. But now it's a full year for maternity. Best wishes to you!

This is such a cute story 😆😳

Lashy, I remembered you posting this poem on the first page of your chapter update. Keeping in mind the context roughly, I located it easily in your ch.22. But I found that the picture of the Faarman with the box posted by Sandya was seen deleted. So I scrolled through all the pages to trace her original post and at last (ooph) I got it on p 93 of the Thread 17. But to my great disappointment, I missed the pic there as well. Like the legendary 'Thun muyarchiyil manam thalaraada' ( meaning: the relentless) Vikramadiyan', I searched google to select a pic that nearly went with her original! Still I am not happy about my choice...
We can enjoy such poems however many times we read..

Lashy..
Originally, what I wrote against alphabet B was this..

B for Bindiya ,a poet outstanding
Close to our heroine , always clinging

But on seeing your comment.. "Oh no... you forgot Bahadur here...", I changed it..😆

Thread 17, did you say? And to think that it has not lost the slightest bit of sheen... Apart from having to find a 'novel' word to go with every alphabet of the English letter, thus doing justice to all major aspects/characters of the novel, you had to make the paragraph about it rhyme too... spectacular👏

Periyamma missing images might have to be attributed to the image-hosting websites... some of them might go out of date😕... or other technical issues that Chellam would be more qualified to explain... 😆

You went through a lot of effort for the HBAS Alphabet poem and this too... but, it IS worth it, Periyamma... Aparna, Rekha, Lana and all those who weren't with us then would get a chance to read these gems now... 👏

Arre pagal, was not saying anything bad about your speech but more about AMK and his men's no-nonsense mentality where they don't dillydally literally wasting their time! Even you will agree now, won't you? Don't you see Mirza Sahib will want to use errrmmm his time with Bhabijaan more constructively instead of listening to her endless speech? 😉🤣

>>>Errr should I fall for Miss Peanuttaker's explanation?🤔 Think Lashy, think...
