AJNABI PART 28
SAHIB AAPNE YAAD KIYA THHA KARNE KO KUCHH ZAROORI BAAT
MUSKAAN CHHUP GAYI SAHIB KI JAB BAATEIN ZAROORI AAYI YAAD
('Sahib, you had summoned me to discuss something important', Heera said. Sahib's smile was lost as he remembered the important things he had to tell her)
BOLE,'SAHIBA AIDABAAD SE KHAT BHEJE THHE AAPNE APAAR
MANASWAAR VA BANSI BHEJE HARKAARON KE BAARE MEIN HAI MERA SAMACHAAR'
(He said, 'Sahiba, you had sent out plenty of letters while at Aidabaad. My news is about the messengers that you had sent to Manaswaar and Bansi')
'AAPKE KHAT KO RAT KAR VE SAB VIDROH PAR AAYE HAIN UTAR
BADI MUSEEBAT VE BAN JAYENGE KOI HAL NA SOCHA HUMNE AGAR'
(They have memorised your message and are about to revolt. They will become a huge problem for us if they are not handled properly)
PATR BHEJ AAP UNHE SAMJAAEIN, MERA AAPSE HAI ANURODH
SACH JAB SAAMNE AAYEGA UNKE TABHI SHHANT HOGA UNKA KRODH
(My advise to you is that you send them a letter which tells them about the reality. This is the only way to placate their anger)
NISHABD KHADI THHI HARKHA BAI, MAN MEIN THHE GLAANI AUR KRODH
PAR SAHIB KE KATHAN KA SATYA NA SAMJHE, ITNI VO THHI NAHI ABODH
(harkha stood silently but she felt angry and helpless. Yet she could well understand the truth behind Sahib's statements, after all she was no child)
DOOSRI BAAT PHIR KABHI KARENGE, DARD SE PEEDIT HAIN AAP ISS WAQT
AISA NA HO YATRA KARKE AUR BHI HO JAAYEIN AAP ASWASTH
('We will talk about the other matter some other time, since you are suffering from a headache. I don't want your health to deteriorate because of the journey)
DAVAA SE AARAAM HAIN AB MUJHKO, KAHIYE DOOSRI BAAT HAI KYA
RAATRI TAK JO LAUT AAYE HIM, NAHI MUJHE HAI KOI VYATHA
(I have taken medication for my pain, and I'm better now. Do tell me what the other matter is about. As long as we return by nightfall, I am fine with the journey)
BAHADUR PAR CHADHNA BAHUT KATHIN THHA, TEEN BAAR GAYI HARKHA PHISAL
JAB SAHIB NE RAKAAB THHAAM KE MADAD KI, TABHI AAROHAN HUA SAFAL
(Climbing on Bahadur was tricky for Harkha. She tried and she slipped thrice. The endeavour was successful only when Sahib stood behind her and firmly held the stirrups in place)
GANTAVYA PAHUNCH KAR SAHIB BOLE, 'MERA DHANYAVAAD KARO SWEEKAAR
MERE LOGON KA GAANV MEIN BASNA, AAP SAB NE KIYA KHUSHGAWAAR'
(Once they reached the destination, Sahib said, 'Please accept my heartfelt thanks. You and your people have been magnanimous to make the experience of settling in for my men very easy)
PAR PAANI KI SAMASYA ATI GAMBHIR HAI, ISKA KARNA HOGA UPAAY
SOCHA HAI MAINE KI AIDABAAD KE JAISI NAHAR YAHAAN BHI KHODI JAAYE'
(The water problem looms large and it demands a solution. Hence I have decided that a canal, like the one in Aidabaad, be built here too)
'VAHAAN DEKHIYE BEGUM SAHIBA, WAHIN SE HI KHUDEGI NAHAR
PAANI KA ABHAAV PHIR KABHI NA HOGA, HARSHIT HOGA POORA SHEHER'
('Look there, Begum Sahiba, that's where the canal will start from. Once it's built, there will not be any shortage of water. The whole town will be happy')
'YE KAUN SI JAGAH HAI' HARKHA BOLI, ZOR SE BHEECH KE APNI AANKHEIN
SAHASA SAHIB NE ROK LI BAAT AUR VYATHHIT HOKAR VE HARKHA KO TAAKE
('Which please is this?' harkha asked, closing her eyes tightly. Sahib stopped whatever he was saying and looked at her, troubled)
'AKSAR AKELE GHODE PAR MAIN YAHAAN AATA HOON DER RAAT
AISA KARNA MUJHE HAI BHAATA, MILTA HAI BHARPOOR ROMAANCH'
(I often some here while riding on my horse late at night. I love to do this because it gives me a thrill)
'KAISA HAI ANUBHAV TEEVR GATI SE ASHV PAR RAAT KO KARNA SAFAR?'
'LAGTA HAI SAHIBA AAPKA MAN BHI ROMAANCH KE LIYE HAI POORA AGRASAR!'
('How does it feel Sahib to ride your horse at great speeds at night?' ' Sahiba, it seems you are quite affected and you too want to try it out?)
KHIL KAR HANSI PHIR HARKHA BOLI, 'SAHIB MUJHE TO KAR DO MAAF!!
RAAT MEIN KYA MAIN ASHV CHADHOONGI, JAB DIN MEIN DIKHTA NAHI HAI SAAF'
(Harkha laughed out loud and said, 'Sahib, Me? riding out at night? When I can't see clearly in the light of the day?')
EK AUR BAAR HAIRAAN HUE SAHIB AISI YUVATI KI PARIPAKVATA KO JAAN
JO SWAYAM KI KAMIYON PAR VYANG KAS SAKE; MAN MEIN UNKE UMADAA SAMMAAN
(Once again Sahib was bowled over by the maturity level of this young woman, who had the ability to laugh at her own flaws. His respect for her shot up)
'DARD KE KAARAN MERI AANKHEIN DEKH NAHI PAA RAHI HAIN KUCHH SPASHT
DHARTI PAR NAKSHA BANAAKAR SAMJHAAIYE, SAMAY NA KEEJIYE AUR AB NASHT'
(Due to the headache, my eyes are not able to see clearly today. So please draw a map on the ground so that I can understand the plan better)
MANORAM DRISHYA PHIR SAHIB NE DEKHA, BAISA ZAMEEN PAR BAITHI THHI
CHALTI UNGLIYON SE DHARTI PE BANE NAKSHE KO PADH RAHI THHI
(Sahib then witnessed an amazing sight! Baisa was sitting on the ground and through her constantly moving fingers, she was trying the understand the map that he had drawn on the ground)
VASTRA SANE THHEY MITTI MEIN AUR KESH AUR CHUNARI BIKHRI THHI
PAR DHYAAN POORA NAKSHE PAR THHA, UNGLIYAAN CHADH AUR UTAR RAHI THHI
(Her clothes were all soiled in mud, her hair and her veil had come undone. But her concentration was on the map where her fingers were constantly moving up and down)
SAHIB KE HRIDAY KE TAAR CHHID GAYE, KHUD PAR KAABOO RAKHA NA JAAYE
SAHIBA KI KHOOBIYAAN, JIN PAR AAKARSHIT HUE THHEY, UNKE MAN KO SAB YAAD AAYE
(The scene tugged at Sahib's heart! It was tough for him to control himself. His mind then started recalling all of Sahiba's virtues, which had made him attracted towards her)
APNE HRIDAY PAR DHAIRYA SAADH KAR, BOLE, 'SAHIBA AAO LAUR CHALEIN
AAPKI MASHAK KHAALI HAI, MERI MASHAK SE AAP PAANI PEE LEIN'
(After controlling his errant heart the Sahib said, 'Sahiba, let's leave now. Your water flask is empty. Please have some from mine')
SAHIB KI MASHAK JYON HARKHA NE KHOLI TYON BHAARI VIPDAA AAN PADI
GALAT CHHOR SE PAANI NIKLAA, SHWAASNALI HUI BAND PADI
(As soon as Harkha opened Sahib's flask, disaster struck! Water came out from the wrong direction and her wind pipe got blocked)
HARKHA KE NIKAT JHAT SAHIB AA GAYE, THHAPKAAYA, HILAAYA, KIYE KAYI UPAAY
CHEHRA LAAL, AANKHON MEIN AANSOO, EK BHI SHWAAS VO NA LE PAAYE
(Sahib rushed near Harkha and tried his best to relieve her discomfort. But Harkha just could not breathe. Her face was red and flushed with tears)
PHIR SAHIB NE ZOR SE PHOOK KE KIYA KUCHH AISA CHAMATKAAR
KHAASI AAYI, NALI KHULI, AUR BEH NIKLI PAANI KI DHAAR
(Then Sahib held her face and blew on it. That caused her to cough and cleared the windpipe, and the extra water got cleared)
POORE PRAKARAN MEIN HARKHA NE SAHIB KA ANGRAKHA THHAMA PURZOR
SHWAAS CHALI TO SAHIB NE SAMETA HARKHA KO APNE HRIDAY KI ORE
(Throughout the incident, Harkha held on tightly to Sahib's angrakha. Once she started breathing, Sahib hugged her)
BOLE, 'HEERA, MAIN SAATH HOON TUMHARE, HAMESHA SURAKSHIT RAKHOONGA
KISI BHI CHINTA KO KABHI TUMHARE AAS PAAS NAHI AANE DOONGA'
(He said, 'Heera! I am right her with you. I'll always keep you safe! I'll make sure that noting untoward ever comes near you')
YEH KAH HARKHA KE KOMAL ADHARON KO SAHIB NE CHOOM LIYA
DIVYA ANUBHOOTI AISI HUI JAISE JANAAT HI UNHONE GHOOM LIYA
(Having said that Sahib kissed Harkha's tender lips. What he felt was as if he had had a heavenly journey)
HARKHA KE MAIN MEIN KAYI BHAAVNAYEIN MACH GAYA UNME HAHAKAAR
KEHNA THHA KUCHH AUR, PAR BOLI, 'SAHIB NA KAREIN BALPOORVAK PRAYAAS'
(Harkha's mind was full of several thoughts, all of which were now in disarray. She wanted to collect her thoughts and say something else, but all she blurted out was, ' please don't force me')
STABDH RAH GAYE SAHIB EKDUM, JHAT KHUD KO HARKHA SE DOOR KIYA
SRISHTI KA DIYA PHOOLON KA GULDASTA, KAANTE DEKH HARKHA NE TOD DIYA
(Sahib was stunned and he immediately moved away from Harkha. Nature had given Harkha a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Alas! She broke it fearing the thorns!)
