My memory of Sridevi -

Sridevi had come down to SL for a Tamil movie Co-production with a few popular Tamilian actors like Shivaji Ganeshan, Aachi Manorama, Major Sunderarajan, Vijaya Kumar, Jaya Chithra plus a few more. I was on my first job in the airlines working at their city office and the airport and as this team made several trips back and forth from Chennai to Colombo and return I got some chances to interact over the movie shoot period.

In Sridevi's case we got her to come down to our City office with her Mom on the pretext of a ticketing issue ( half truth 😉 ) and passport. Her Mom did most of the talking & Sridevi would just nod & smile mostly. So one of our senior colleague managed to take her Mom away for about 10 minutes & the rest of us rounded her up and bombarded her with questions. When we told what was done to take her Mom away she had a hearty laugh and loosened up a bit. She was very sweet then, beautiful & innocent looking.

But what stuck out for us that day was what her Mom had wanted to know from us, when she found out that we were verifying passports. It was about a fellow actress ( Manjula's ) year of birth & how much older she was than her daughter. But my unforgettable & amusing moments were with the veterans Shivaji & Manorama who were also my Mom's favourites.

And looks like the rumours about the 'overbearing' mother are turning out to be true. 😲

RGV said the same thing in his write up about Sridevi. My mom just forwarded me a WA message about it and I told her not to believe most of what RGV says. 😆

And now, so many are talking of suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Untimely deaths of actresses - be it of Divya Bharathi, Jiah Khan or Sridevi - all tend to give rise to an ominousness - whether true or not, only God knows.

Btw, like Chellam, I'd be interested in hearing about Shivaji/ Manorama too! Such amazing actors these two were...
