Tfs Anji 😊

Why on earth do people call this guy arrogant?...he comes across as a most humble & down to earth person...with a fierce sense of loyalty, dedication & diligence...a deadly combination, I'd say 😃

Mayhem, noise, cacophony, commotion, crowds, candidness, informal camaraderie, unguarded appearance, a few laughs, many questions, - made for an adorable interview!

I AM NOT A CELEBRITY'

TV actor Rajat Tokas says he is just a "normal worker"; adds that he doesn't feel the need to take a break, as he enjoys his work

I don't work for money or fame. People have a purpose to work. But I don't have a reason. I work for my personal satisfaction. RAJAT TOKAS, ACTOR

Rajat Tokas has made a name for himself in the television industry in the past 10 years. He has worked on seven shows, including Prithviraj Chauhan and Jodha Akbar, among others. Now, the actor is back on the small screen with yet another historic show. Here, he talks about how he does not want to work for money or fame, and more.

You have often been seen playing historical characters. What is your criteria for signing a new show?

On TV or in films, actors do not make a choice. They are selected by the makers. I don't have any preferences when it comes to my characters. I take on whatever role is offered to me. I enjoy every character that I play " be it a historical role or a modern one.

You have been working non-stop for the past few years. Would you call yourself a workaholic?

How will I survive if I don't work? For me, acting is a job, like any other [profession]. Many actors prefer to take a break between projects, but I can't afford to do that. Moreover, I enjoy my work, so I don't feel the need to take a break.

Most actors turn to films for fame or money. What is your plan?

I don't work for money or fame. People have a purpose to work. But I don't have a reason. I work for my personal satisfaction. I am surviving [in the industry] because I don't have a goal.

In an earlier interview, you apparently said you don't think of yourself as a celebrity? What did you mean by that?

People have this misconception that I am a celebrity. I am not a celebrity. The problem is that people get confused with the difference between a celebrity, an actor and a superstar. A celebrity is a person who doesn't know how to work, or doesn't work at all. A superstar is someone who does a lot of drama. An actor is a person who gets his job done and goes home. I am just a normal worker.

Do you want to act in films?

Like I said earlier, actors don't get to pick roles. Producers choose actors [who they think are] fit for their projects. So, in the future if someone offers a film to me, I wouldn't mind taking it up. But I will not leave my current project like many TV actors have done in the past. I will stay loyal because I plan to be here for a long time. I won't betray my TV show's producer to work in a film.

Thank you for digging this up, my dear Putija.

It is a remarkably intelligent interview by Rajat - seemingly self-deprecatory but actually very self-confident and assured. And the distinction he draws between a celebrity , a superstar and an actor is wickedly funny!

I liked two things here the most.

One, that he is appealingly candid about the mechanism for getting roles, that it is not so much for the actor to choose as for him to be chosen by the producer. In the process, he disposes of the standard question re: typecasting as well.

Two, the last part about working in films. Almost every other actor whom I have seen answering this question says that he wants to work in both, and tries to hint that he has film offers in the pipeline. In these somewhat defensive answers, there is always the underlying feeling that he sees TV as inferior to films.

Rajat totally avoids this line, and this is a very clever move. His jeena yahan, marna yahan attitude, and his emphasis on loyalty to his TV producer, should both go down very well with Ekta and her fellow producers.
