Shyamala, since Harka Bai was supposed to be intelligent and most probably may not have had any OTT hatred for Akbar ala EK ishtyle (must have been the AG one in most probability) I doubt she would have ever placed any 'maangein' or 'sharts'. Maangein denotes subservience which I don't think she was and Shart denotes lack of intelligence and that she had aplenty. So what could have really happened????

I personally think she may have requested for the meeting with the Emperor and put across a gentle question - of what would a person need the most when he takes a path that is very difficult to walk and what would he need to hold on to in situations that he never would have never faced in a normal course nor would he have ever thought he would face.

Akbar himself was a extremely intelligent man, very astute and a fabulous judge of people with excellent understanding of human psychology and based on such gentle question would have had the wisdom to know what it would mean to give his first Hindu wife the freedom to keep her faith and her belief in tact not only to their relationship but to the building of his dream of a composite Hindustan under a single banner of the Mughals.

Such a thought provoking question seems more plausible. Women in general have the ability to bring the micro narrative to the fore where men look at meta narratives.

brilliant adišŸ‘..in bold is what i was looking for in Akbar's jodha..but ekta's jodha could not bring that up neither with her acting nor with the script..the jodha i was looking for and i think must have been close to the real one is the one who was tactful and knew how to carve her path not by aggression but by submitting oneself keeping the self respect and dignity intact!

Love for motherland and youthful idealism - yes. But where was the proof? When the time came for the sacrifice, personal feelings became paramount. When you are prone to knee-jerk reactions and unbridled feelings then all those high sounding words begin to seem hollow.

You have probably guessed it by now, that I cut Jodha a lot of slack. I don't know, I just find her adorable except in a few tracks later on. But I don't to get super upset if others criticise her, so have at it.šŸ˜‰ I was really interested in reading your views but you never "unresed" your "res"šŸ¤”

I found her very adorable the first time around too inspite of her little bhaashans here and there. 😳 All through the first 100 episodes. But when there was an overdose of these bhaashans and 'I-am-never-wrong' words later, I became sceptical.šŸ˜•

Yes. Lost my long reply the first time I posted, and kept pro-crastinating re-replying.

Perfect, Adiana. I would vote for your version without any reservations.

Shyamala

PS: You mean mega-narratives as against micro-narratives, do you not?

I knew you would relate to this and most probably this may have been the way it went - this is transaction analysis at its best and what my father equated with rustic wisdom of our grandmother's - when you want someone to do things your way or something that you want them to do, make it seem it was all their idea - in modern times the best way to get the boss doing what you want and in traditional times the way the wife would get her husband to do what she wants - and in my opinion the way Jodha would have worked her way through - and a smart boss / husband will also know what he's made to do but will never resent as it doesn't hurt his ego - and so every time Jodha would do this I would expect Akbar to be giving her his half smile as he works out a solution to such situations šŸ˜‰ 😃

They are called meta narratives in methodology, and do mean mega narratives or the larger picture.

Just wanting to clarify some of my points
In 1569 Akbar married Nathi Begum princess of Jaisalmer(i guess cannot remember) same year as Jodha. Nathi begum was the mother of one of his daughters(Mahi or Meeti Begum)
He married Daulat Shad too in same year as Hira
I personally believe Akbar had no love of his life for him marriage was more political and for future heirs. I say that because even as late as age 52-56 Akbar married princess young enough to be his daughters or grand daughters. For someone in love(with Hira or any wife) i do not think that is necessary(no matter what political justification is given)
Regarding Ruqaiah Begum- I never said she was his love at the same time its not how some posts on forum potrayed that Akbar never spoke to her for 7 years etc. Ruqaiah was close to him as he gave his favourite(he had two favs Khusrau whom he groomed for power and Khurram whom he adored as youngest prince) grandson to her and allowed her to bring him up in an orthodox mughal way(without much rajputh influence) this at a time when Jodha Bai had only one living son(Khurram). Like i said earlier i do not believe Akbar loved anyone but he definetly loved Ruqaiah as a cousin sister or childhood playmate to relent and hand over Khurram in her upbringing.
Regarding Salima being his favourite wife- that again is not my saying someone else. I do not think he loved any wife the way we define love, he was a casanova who enjoyed womens company not one woman. In the book emperors writing Drik Collier definetly states that Salima was his love(If you all can read, its a brillant book on Akbars life)
Also regarding Hira Kunwari - its pretty sure she converted to islam as she is buried in muslim ways and also she has a mosque named after her Marium uz zamani mosque. Some historians have also told this in their books(though currently i cannot remember names, interested can search to know more)
I do not want to update more history related stuff as thread will be in danger of closing by mods

I had never heard of the Russian Holmes films. Where can one see them? Presumably they come with sub-titles. I did not like the first Robert Downey Jr. film at all - they had made it look like an Indiana Jones thrill a moment caper - and I skipped the second. As for the Cumberbatch ones, I would rate them so so, but of course that is my opinion, and many seem to like them a lot. At least they are respectful towards the Canon, and do not treat it as something to be reduced to slapstick!

So glad to see you back. In my opinion, Livanov is the best Holmes, and that Sherlock Holmes series is the best depiction of that era.

Prem, whether Akbar had a love life or not is totally beside the point. The point is that when one throws information freely out there for everyone to read he or she must at least make sure that it is close to accurate.. if not 100% accurate. Even in your clarification you have wrong information.

Heer Kunwar aka Jodha married Akbar in 1562.
Akbar married the princesses of Jaisalmer and bikaner in 1570 or thereabouts. This is from the original source called the Akbarnama.

Telling people to refer to a fictional biography of Akbar written by an European in the 21st century is not the best reference.

I rest my case.

Devki

PS: Calling a ruler of Akbar's achievements and caliber a casanova and a womaniser is the most degrading, demeaning and insulting thing to say about him.

@bold. This is also what we were taught as young diplomats, Adiana. Not to score points off your interlocutors or otherwise put their backs up, but to make them feel that what you want them to do is what they themselves wanted in the first place.
