Ela, the common belief in all religious systems is that for every good action there is a reward and for every bad action there is a punishment.

What ppl do not understand is that there is nothing called GOOD / BAD Action - there is only action - its only the result of the action that makes ppl judge it as good or bad - and hence ppl talk of karma as the resultant reward or punishment.

Karma is Action - and its the duty of every being (living and non-living) to act - Action is the foundation of the Universe - and hence every action is in effect a creation and everything created will also be destroyed - and the results of every action are to make us take responsibility of the action - and the results of the action are what we experience as the reward / punishment for this act / creation.

The problem is that every action is based on the proposed result - which makes every such action as destruction instead of creation.

Its only when action comes from compassion that the action becomes an act of creation and not destruction.

Khushi, when someone is punished For their sins - this is society taking a call that the action was wrong and hence a sin - but this is external and hence the punishment also only impacts the external.

Being punished By a sin - means being punished by the action - this happens when the action instead of resulting in creation results in destruction - this destruction is internal and eats away the soul - and it is always on that which the person holds dearest - and watching that which you hold dearest being destroyed before ur eyes and unable to do anything about it is when the person is punished By the sin.
