Raja Bharmal - a traitor par excellence

Raja Bharmal was king of Amer, Heer Kunwari's father, an oppurtunist, & a traitor par excellence, who never really got his due in history.

1) As per the drama, Jodha's first year after marriage had been torturous beyond imagination. Her arrogant attitude from the beginning had been her only shield to keep all predators, especially Jalal, at bay. It could have been worse, had Jalal not vowed to NOT touch her without her consent. But then wasn't that expected?...at least Mainawati was realistic enough to foresee this, & hence strongly opposed this marriage.

Jodha despised the Mughal Emperor, Jalal the most on the face of this earth, & she had vowed to serve his head as an offering to her beloved Ambe Ma. Yet, she was married off to the very same Jalal, in "exchange" of the safety of Bharmal's kingdom & his sons. This, knowing fully well the size of Akbar's harem, as also the "lusty" ways of Jalal which were highly infamous then. This speaks volumes about the opportunist & the highly manipulative streak in Bharmal as a person.

2) We already know, how, despite Sujamal being the rightful heir to the throne of Amer, Bharmal chose to name his son, Bhagwantdas his successor. We also know how Sujamal was forced to revolt, & finally died trying to save Jalal from Shareef (as per film...am not sure otherwise). In short, Bharmal's greed ruined his nephew's life.

3)As if all this was not enough, Bharmal sent his youngest daughter, Shivani to Agra on learning about her secret paramour- Tejwant, an ordinary artisan. This was a highly delicate situation as Shivani had been quite vocal & sure about her feelings for her love. Despite all this, Bharmal agreed to a marriage proposal between Mirza Hakim & Shivani, to avoid bringing disgrace to his own family, but nonchalantly risking disgrace to not only his elder daughter's sasuraal ( he knew how tough Jodha's journey had been in Agra hitherto) but also the mighty Mughal Sultanate.

It was Jodha's good fortune & definitely the innate goodness of both Jalal & Jodha, that both fell in love with each other, & the rest is history.

Else, Bharmal's selfish deeds could have made his daughter suffer much more than what she did.
