Mandy, he invents his expressions, or he reinvents himself for each new one, take your pick.
After hearing from you, I have rewatched the two scenes you have flagged from my HD recording of last night, during the actual telecast. I like seeing any show only on a 50 inch screen, never on on my 15.6 inch laptop screen. And for Rajat, that is a must!
I am duly flattered by your very kind praise, regardless of how much it is deserved. So here is my take on those two bits.
The pani ka tumbler: He has just then been pondering whether he should, after all, ask her straight out what she was doing in the hut with the mystery man. Then he decides against it, because he does not trust her to tell him the truth. I wish he had asked it; it would have been interesting to see the vachan vs patidev tussle inside Jodha.
So, when he wants that drink and moves toward the stool on which she had placed the chased silver tumbler, he is all the while looking at her with a considering gaze. The question in his mind is not so much Shall I or shall I not? for he has already decided not to ask her.
Rather, he is trying to look deep into her eyes and gauge her innermost thoughts. So his eyes are puzzled, doubtful, and even a tad wary as he casts one last glance at her and moves away out of her rooms.
There is nothing in the least flirtatious in his reaching for the water glass over her shoulder. He is not really there with her, but back in his own grey shadowy world of persistent doubt and unacknowledged fears. Fears, as I had noted earlier, that she might be up to something dubious after all. Her clear gaze might have reinforced his faith in her essential integrity and loyalty, but the cloud still lingers.
It was an amazing little vignette, and you are really very perceptive to have noted it and appreciated it at its true worth. How many here, do you think, would have been up to doing so? Very few.
The curious thing is that for all her holding his gaze with her own clear, unwinking and very beautiful eyes, there is no corresponding nuance of any kind on Jodha's face. She stares at him with with undisturbed candour, even when he is quite close (how these people manage this sort of gaze at 3 inches away, without going cross-eyed beats me!), and there is absolutely no withdrawal or shyness on her side, though she does lower her eyes after a while. But no, she does not close them. It is just the slight awkwardness of having him come so close to her.
What should have been there in Jodha's face, but was not, was the delicate little frisson (trembling) of anticipation of his embracing her, seeing that he looked as though that was what he was going to do. It should have been there in her body language, and even more so in her eyes. The tremulous hope, the flicker of a hidden longing, of the desire to have him forget his anger and hold her close. I can imagine what, say, the Tara of Ek Boond Ishq, would have made of that scene. Paridhi is lovely to behold, and very competent all the time and excellent at times. But she is not inspired, she never soars into unknown skies. Then again, they have handicapped her severely by making Jodha out to be such a preachy Victorian schoolmarm that it was not to be expected anyway.
The portrait: As for the time when Jalal is looking at her portrait, he has his chin in his hand and is looking rather like The Thinker, the very famous work by the iconic French sculptor Auguste Rodin. His eyes are narrowed, in sharp contemplation of her face, and they are hooded and not easily readable. It is as if he was weighing her in the balance, and wondering how to decipher the puzzle that is Jodha. It is a still, assessing attitude; there is no longing in his face or eyes, no desperation, no anguish. Here is no frustrated lover, it is rather a judge trying to gauge the innocence, or otherwise, of the accused.
From there to the sudden wide-eyed celerity with which he covers the portrait was a delightful switch. Even after she gets there, he is still on edge about his very narrow shave, and that shows in his body language as he stands there with his back to her, heedless of her greeting.
Our boy is something quite out of the ordinary, and invariably a treat to watch. There can be no two opinions about that!
There, I hope that makes some sense. At least it is detailed enough!

@aunty: I think I did read that awkwardness from Jodha's side as anticipation... A split second before he reached for the glass it looked like she thought he was hugging her & she didn't look averse at all... 😉

Shyamala, you are very confident that till next Wednesday, the show will be in drains😆, even I have no doubt about t, one episode will be wasted for hoshiyaars b'day and Tuesday in plotting, infact we should not bother to watch till Jalal decides to vent his frustration and jus fear out. Till then episodes will be in doldrums😡.
Just hope audience don't have to wait for two weeks for this. This track is another disaster

Yes, my pet, it is not impossible, but it was far from clear. I watched it very carefully. There is nothing evident at all, we are left to imagine what we wanted her to show. It is as if we have to go on an archaeological expedition!
Whereas with Rajat's Jalal, we puzzle out his intentions, in terms of what he wants to show us, from very clear indications which only have to be interpreted. Here, there no data at all. When she looks at him as he comes near her, her eyes do not have any expression. The contrast between intent (giving her the benefit of the doubt😉) and ability was very clear!
Look, how dense can she be if she still does not have a clue as to what is riling him? She will singlehandedly demolish the whole concept of feminine intuition!
