First of all, I want to admit
I like this Ruq jealousy track. I had apprehensions when it was announced that Jo would be rubbed into the dust by Ruq and MA and Jo would have to be saved by Jalal in the end. I was also scared of the schemes Ruq might come up with to humiliate Jo.
But I'm so glad that Ruq is restricting herself to crying and screaming and just being obnoxious and not actually doing any nasty unbearable things (like BB in the false preg track). And best of all, Jo is standing up to her with great dignity and grace. She doesn't need Jalal to protect her from Ruq or anyone else. Way to go Jo 👏
Someone on IF had mentioned that Jalal is not stepping in to save Jodha from Ruq because he wants Jodha to stand up and fight for her rights as his wife instead of meekly submitting to Ruq's bullying and needing his support. I am so sorry I don't remember who said this - my memory of names is really bad - but whoever did was absolutely right! Jo has finally come to realise she loves Jalal (even if she doesn't admit it to herself openly). She doesn't want to share him with Ruq anymore. True, she doesn't want to come between Ruq and Jalal but she won't let Ruq come between her and Jalal either!
She is ready to show her haq on Jalal as his wife and will not be pushed around by anyone. But she is doing it in a classy manner. She is not a "doormat" but she is a real queen. 😊 She doesn't resort to slanging matches or outshouting the competition, or giving bhashans. She is mellow and gracefully quiet. No wonder Jalal likes her so much 😳 after spending his teenage years with Tantrum Queen 😆
Some people have suggested on IF that Jalal should have a talk with Ruq and tell her he loves Jodha and that Ruq should respect her. This is not good. The showdown between Jodha and Ruq is very important because Jodha should put Ruq in her place and Jodha should make it evident to Ruq that she will not tolerate anyone trying to come between her and Jalal. Respect has to be earned and cannot be bestowed by anyone. Jodha has to fight her own battles. If she does, Jalal will stand with her like he did yesterday. Because then he knows that she values him and their relationship. But if she becomes weak and lets Ruq walk over her, he will feel she doesn't value him and he will not support her either.
Jalal wants a wife who will love him so much that she cannot bear to share him with anyone and who will give him so much that he will not need to turn to anyone else for comfort. When Ruq was initially not jealous of Jodha, he told her she should be jealous. Because that would assure him that he meant a lot to Ruq. When initially Jodha would step down for Ruq, he was sad because he wanted Jo to assert her haq over him. In the garden scene after Jo saves him from Ben, he had wondered why Jo had left a vacuum in his heart so that Ben could try to fill it.
The maha showdown between Ruq and Jodha will:
1. Finally show Ruq that auda isn't everything and that anyway, auda has to be earned and it's not a birthright. Both Jalal and Jodha have auda too but they don't throw it around.
2. Make Jodha realise that sometimes she should be tough with people to safeguard her relationship with her husband. That if rank/title will decide her haq over her husband then she must have that rank/title even if personally she doesn't crave for them.
3. Make Jalal realise that he values the caring Jodha more than the auda-conscious Ruq.
4. Make Ruq accept Jodha as an integral part of Jalal's life.
5. Make MA realise that in spite of her schemes, JaJo have bonded beautifully and it will take a lot for her to wean Jalal away from Jodha and her influence.
I do hope Jalal doesn't interfere in the battle of the queens and they fight it out for the love of one of the greatest kings in India.
PS: All this may sound bad to feminists but hey, this was how society was 400 years ago 😆
