My dear Joja,

Re: @red, do take a look at my marathon response above to Sandhya et al about Ruqaiya. Then we can discuss Jodha's kind of love, the chief feature of which would be that it does not seek power or any other material benefit in return from Jalal.

I too really like Ruq. I very much liked her initially. Maybe now it's a bit reduced because of her screaming , joining hands with MA plot and being not grateful to Jodha for saving her from divorcing Jalal.

But I also understand, no one can leave your husband to someone no matter what. Ruq is good at heart, its just her auda stuff which makes her grey at times.

I might have used a wrong scenario. But what I wanted to convey was in comparison to Jodha's love. Both Ruq-Jodha are very different and can't compare.

Well, the more I talk now I am confused and thinking whats different betwwen Jodha's love for Jalal and Ruq's love for Jalal.

Aunty can you please explain this?

Thank you so much aunty and everyppbody else who clarified and explained their views.
Aunty
The main thing is that we have fallen in love with smiley ruqaiya and even 140 episodes after she left her charisma still lingers on. Your take on the old ruqaiya is exactly how we feel about her.

When dumbledores changed we hardly felt the change except that the new one was more active.
But when smiley was replaced by lavina the very essence and spirit of the character has changed. Here only the cvs have to be blamed. (Here I totally second tripti when she says that had smiley continued we would have never wanted jodha in the picture)

Had jalal been portrayed as a bull headed warrior with no brains at the start we might have accepted the tasneem track without complaints aunty. But after having shown him as a shrewd politician he was made to look like an idiot there to glorify jodha. So we were more angry with the makers than the character. Similarly had ruqaiya always been the screecher we wouldn't have even cared for her. But after portraying her as one charming hurt and intelligent lady with royalty oozing in her every step, reducing her to what she is suddenly without any reason also comes across as the cvs attempt to jodha mata ki jai rather than her fault. That is where ruqaiya still holds sympathies.

Friendship with added benefits is not fair to any woman aunty. Either he should have treated her as one among the many of the harem and never given her importance as she has never captured his heart or been any different than she is now. Never told her you are the only one Ruqaiya. Depriving her of her importance in his life because he has suddenly decided to change is not fair . To be born blind is one thing. But to become blind midway is worse. How much has he done to overcome jodha's grina. Why didn't he even try to overcome ruqaiya's shortcomings but has rather encouraged her to be the way she is. Both of them have not worked to cement and strengthen their marriage and have taken each other for granted.

Am hoping for a sensitive handling of the triangle esp from jalal. But I wouldn't be surprised given the trp audiences' expectations if ruqaiya is degraded further to highlight jo.

PS: incidentally aunty if there was a movie made on Ruqaiya Sultan: Mallika-e-Hind it need not be tragic for Ruqaiya at all. She would have been the heart throb of Akbar the Great who calmed down a turbulent young cousin with her calm patient learned intelligent royal and charming personality. A Queen who waa his Chief Empress and Chief Consort and stood by her husband like solid rock and managed his home and welcomed his other queens for the sake of his happiness. A queen whose friendship love and companionship Akbar valued above anything else though he was besotted with others at times, who was his ultimate soulmate though she couldn't give him what she wanted to with all her heart only because it would give him abundant joy -an heir. But nevertheless when he got one through another queen considered him as her own son, was a bridge betwen the family members and brought up Khurram and loved him a thousand times more than if he were her own son.

The greatest casualty of this epic love story as depicted in the serial is the character of Ruqaiya Begum Sultan and of course Jalal's intelligence and smartness that has also gone under the guillotine to add halo after halo to the invariably mahaan heroine of the show. Aunty, I have long time since dissociated the characters from the real ones in history and look at the story only as some raja rani tale.

A small clarification

I never said that jo is an other woman. I said if smiley ruqaiya had continued since their chemistry was terrific we would have felt that jodha would have been the other woman, the intruder. Of course all queens are equal in a polygamous marriage. It is upto the king to prefer one.

And yes. The smiley ruqaiya was my favourite. I liked her as much as jalal. I preferred her layered character to the never wrong ever perfect bhaashan jodha. But sigh... this lavina ruqaiya is a screecher and more flawed. And I am sure that she will be butchered further.

And jodha since Friday seems to be a different person altogether. All her fears for loss of jalal, hurt at her family letting her down, hurt at jalal's having ignored her and fear that she has completely lost his trust, she was emotionally churned inside out at her paradise lost. Now with jalal safe and having her paradise regained and jalal's trust too she seems to have shed all her annoying qualities and is lovely herself.

Now with this change in jodha and lavina screeching louder than ever even hardcore ruqaiya fans can't complain and it has to be so. This is the story of jodha akbar after all.

This has a 3 point perspective - How Ruqu accepts Jodha and yet maintains her space? - How Jodha makes her space and yet does not interfere in Ruqu's space? And how Jalal ensures that both his wives have their space with him? Abb yahan all 3 need to make the effort - and neither Ruqu nor Jodha shd impinge on what the other has. And Jalal needs to ensure that one will not loose her space becoz of the space he has given to the other. Abhi tak Jalal has ensured this and I do believe that he will do so in the future. But if Ruqu does impinge on Jodha's space with he will move swiftly just as he did with the hojra issue.

i was just reading randomly and came across such a valid point raised by sandhya and an excellent reply given by adi..i too feel what adi has to say..i read another comment made by sandhya which has made me think...why lovey dovey feelings for jo and those feelings were never there for ruq, whereas ruq did more than jo could ever do especially during ghrina track???...hmmm...i will have to see all the old epis again but what i think is that ja always asked ruq if she feels jealous..her answer was no!...one time he was in the bath tub and ruq is upset about something and he is injured..instead of asking him about his well being she starts complaining about some audha issue..anyway it was in those lines..cannot remember the scene well...i think jalal expected something more than power from ruq..and ruq always thought that jalal would get impressed by brain tactics..she played all the brain tactics to get jalal's love..jalal enjoyed her company as a friend but was always looking for that wife that cares like a mother and feels the inner pain as her own..he somehow did not see that in ruq...

now coming to jodha..she was very blunt in saying she hates him rather than sugar coating her words..in spite of being in the ghrina mode she felt hurt seeing him hurt..for example applying lep..she is good to all humans and feels their pain..she showed that window to jalal during his birthday..again made jalal move that she thinks beyond herself..and now the sacrifice where she did not care about her life and did her kartavya well..maybe ruq could have done the same if she was not blind folded by power...i guess its the basic personality of a human being that attracted him more rather than who did what to what extend and expected what in return!

sorry i beg to differ on this, i think it is more of the cvs fault in ruqs portrayal character change, if smiley had continued they would have also made her the screecher once Jodha was introduced. I am also hoping for Ruqs redemption as aunt shyamala has mentioned in her post about her acceptance of Jalal's love of Jodha for her own goodness sake.

When was the last time you watched dappled sunlight dancing on the surface of running water? Or the iridescent colours that appear and disappear on a butterfly's wings as the light catches them? A long time ago, I expect. But I saw both on Friday night , as Jalal and Jodha created magic together, and Tinkerbell spangled the screen with fairy dust.

Auntie, this was the perfect opening for a magnificent episode! You have brought back so many precious summer-time memories for me making me even more anxious to see the end of this brutally cold winter. Well, that cold winter between Jalal and Jodha has reached its end!

What can I say about the two that you haven't already touched upon? I loved this snippet:

She demurely watches her patidev from under her long lashes as he, having gently settled her in the garden seat, looks here , there and everywhere - at the heavens, at the balustrade, at the ground, in short everywhere but at her - as he moves sideways and perches himself on the other seat. From where he continues to look all around, as awkward as a teenager on his first date, rather than like an emperor with a harem full of beautiful women.

An emperor with a harem full of beautiful women! And yet, he has fallen for this one and oh, I hope Jodha finds his awkwardness and his hesitancy as endearing as all of us do! For the first time ever, they actually sat down and talked about the events that had transpired, it was surprising but wonderful that they are working on their communication.

By the way, a master's degree in physics?! That is one subject I will never be able to wrap my brain around - I would always find ways to get out of it in high school! 😆

This post ranks up there as one of my favorites on this forum! Thank you Auntie for continuing to write for us - I appreciate your hard work in giving us such outstanding posts!
