Part 1
Jodha Owns Jalal
*For those of you that are not familiar to the terminology, "owning someone" is slang and it means like defeating them in like a verbal battle or just beating them at something, it's hard to explain. Google it. But it DOES NOT mean to like physically own like property.* It had been a good two weeks of nothing but absolute nonsense. Said nonsense consisted of "accidental" skin-show by the Emperor's royal s**t Ben-e-whatever-the-rest-of-her-name-is; the Emperor's ridiculous accusations and misunderstandings which at this point weren't even surprising; Moti's constant suggestions on "How-to-be-a-Good-Wife"; and Maham's plain old existence.
And what part of "I didn't write that in the letter!" did he not get? Did his ego outweigh the possibility of my innocence to the extent in which he couldn't even go back and check the letter! I could go on and on, but in my opinion he who doesn't have any faith in me doesn't deserve a second thought either.
"Jodha!"
Ugh, it was Moti. As much as she loved the girl, she could get annoying. Especially when The Emperor was being a royal pain. "Yes Moti,"
"I'm not here to lecture you...for now," she drew my attention, "The Emperor wants to see you, he walked all the way over here to your kaksh!"
"Oh dear lord! The Emperor made use of his feet! I have been blessed!"
"Now Jodha! He's your husband, be polite to him and don't say anything that would..."
"Moti, I believe you said this wouldn't be a lecture. And besides, please ask the Emperor to wait outside for a few minutes, I'll be right with him,"
"Why? Your hair is fine,"
"I just want to make him wait, his royal highness deserves it for being a..."
"I'm sending him in!" She refused to heed to my instructions. Sigh... Let's see what scene he's here to create today.
I heard him disperse the daasis before entering.
"Namaste Shehensha," I decided to give him my attention for exactly 3 seconds.
One.
"Salaam Jodha Begum," Two.
Three. And thus I went back to more important things, like arranging my bangles for the day.
"I've come to speak with you," he stated the obvious to my back.
"Yes,"
"I would appreciate it if you could look at me while I speak,"
"I don't see what role my face has in this conversation,"
And thus the attention deprived Emperor lost it, "As the Emperor of the Mughal Sultanat I DEMAND you look at me while I speak."
Always has to have his way doesn't he? Putting the bangles down, I turned to his morning face, "I'm all ears...and face,"
He didn't bother to question my annoyed choice of words and continued, "I just wanted to inform you that your shawl has been put to good use, Benezair is no longer shivering in these cold Agra nights, all thanks to your shawl now we can both enjoy the warmth of passion together as o--"
"Too much information?"
"Is it bothering you?"
"No, I just do not wish to invade the privacy of my dear lord, my Emperor, the GREAT Shehensha Jalaludin Mohammad Akbar,"
I hope my sarcasm wasn't too offensive.
"Wasn't it you who told me I had the potential to become a great ruler, one who would go down in history?"
"Yes and I don't deny making that statement one bit, but Shehensha there is a difference between having the potential to be great and actually becoming great. Drowning yourself in Harem politics and in the arms of your beloved whor-- I mean lover, can only get you so far."
Jodha- 1 Jalal- 0
Realizing he had nothing left to say and his "make-Jodha-jealous" attempt of the day proved to bear no fruit, he decided to leave. But I couldn't let him leave just like that now could I?
"Wait Shehensha! I almost forgot," I handed him a thaal, "I have this wool stole I'd gotten for you a few weeks ago. I was originally planning to gift it to you once winter really starting hitting Agra but since your beloved Benezir fancies my gifts, and you yourself don't find them to be of much use anyways, I decided to gift this to your baandi myself. And this way the poor girl won't need to expose herself too much due to shortage of clothes, consider it a thank you gift for keeping my husband so happy," I smiled.
Jodha- 2 Jalal- 0
With just the flat face I wanted to see, he left, Moti following closely behind with the gift.
