Yours was, expectedly one of the rare posts that weren't championing the romance cause and the absolute loss of opportunity 😃 I have no doubts regarding the tone and logic of it.
I did mention in my post in your last thread that I hoped Mohan would bring about a self realisation for the two, mostly for Jodha but his attack should not be an onset of a hackneyed love-track. I want this story to tickle my brain and not aim for the endocrine system (though that wouldn't be much successful a campaign 😃) Also a sudden blossoming of love a la toadstool between them would have been...well lets say I'm a flop as a romantic.
But somewhere you seemed quite happy with the episode, whereas I had found it lacking...hence the opening gambit 😊I would grant you the
@red, with the reservation that I did like Paridhi on Monday, stock shots and all. The whole was, with all its defects of screenplay (tying him to her with that vine, instead of half of her dupatta, for example; see extract below from my earlier post), shot composition, and editing ,the last especially of the struggle with Mohan (who was magnificent and did his best, including climbing that tree, which tigers rarely do,as opposed to leopards), better than I had feared.
Tigers, being of the Cat family can climb. But as they are the heaviest of felines, climbing is not an easy task for them. Same reason why they are not good at spot high jumps. Again they need to gather momentum by running a bit so that they can hoist themselves up a tree. Also grown tiger can't climb to higher branches. I know of an instance when a pregnant tigress hounded by villagers climbed atop a Palmira tree.
So I'm cutting Mohan some slack 😃😉
There was a measure of desperation and near hysteria to Jodha which I, frankly, did not expect. Plus, I was so relieved that they did not make her drag him to a conveniently placed cave and cure him miraculously with the application of some nearby jadi booti, that I was prepared to be lenient re: her emoting. She is not in the same class as Rajat, so one's expectations of her are lower to begin with. She was not, I feel, capable of doing any more. Within those parameters, I liked her a lot. . But the success of an actor, like beauty, always lies in the eyes of the beholder, and this must have been no exception.
Re Paridhi's Jodha, I think her performance is further hampered by the absence of clarity in the production team about what the character should actually be...a lot of confusion there.
You and others here have mentioned some of the Q's that were in my mind as well about why she did not use her Dupatta to tie Jalal to self.
I would also like to ask why not tear the same length of cloth and tie up his wounds to try stop the blood from flowing? Why bath his cuts with muddy water? As a Rajput princess a basic knowledge and exposure to such wounds should have been a part of her experience kitty. She has also seen severed heads including that of Suryabhan's, so gore should not be her problem...
Have you ever witnessed a dog in attack mode? You will find yourself more animated (than Jodha) or simply paralaysed by the sight. And here Jalal was being mauled by Mohan and all Jodha does is stand with a scrunched up expression, flexing and unflexing a fist!!
Lecturing a mortally wounded man on the verge of losing his senses on Nirdosh Pashupranee was incredibly stupid a concept 😆
The Midday Sun to sundown and down pour as you mention is also one of those mysteries that will remain unsolved.
You say they should have constructed at least a makeshift stretcher for Jalal...Again the Logical mind speaking 😊 His wounds were mostly on the chest and they put him chest down and head hanging on the horse...enough to kill whatever chances the man may have had of surviving.
But even before that, where did that Horse come from? If assuming the Shehenshah and his begum had ridden to their place of Appointment with Mohan, where had they left the Horses? because a jungle is no place to leave your mount at the mercy of its own resources...I mean Mohan could have attacked them too...or was there a no-attack zone somewhere? Or had Mohan made prior promise to attack the Royal couple only?
Again what happened to the other Horse? Or had the two again shared mount while travelling to meet Mohan?
I can go on and on...
As for Jodha hauling Jalal up... must have been a result of the practiced ease with which she carried all that tonnage of Gold around every day. Don't underestimate her muscles.
The squeaky rewind of Jodha's entirely unwanted nightmare sounded like something out of Tom and Jerry!😉
@blue. I have, as you would have noticed, said exactly the same, and at somewhat greater length, in my post, in the section about the Mughal ladies., and in the Star of the Day. If I had done a post for No.81, Hamida Banu would have been the Star of the Day again, and this as much for the clear-eyed enunciation of what the others feel about Jodha and the consequent danger she runs from them, as for her steadfast faith in her and support for her. Jodha should compare Hamida in this crisis with her own Maasa. Mahaam too was splendid on the fort ramparts, but she could hardly have hoped to keep the matter secret.
In the past two epis I think we are allowed a glimpse of the genes that actually shaped Jalal. Hamida Banu showded, beneath that placid exterior lies a woman worldly wise, attuned to the political complexities of the era and toughened by the ravels of time. It couldn't have been easy being Humayun's begum... living a life of exile under constant threats in a foreign land with foreign people, letting go of your son at such a tender age. She is an Empress in every sense..and also a loving Mother. She found it in her to rise above the situation. She could so easily have blamed Jodha for all that's transpired, but she does the opposite, protects with all the powers at her disposal...couldn't have been an easy ask from a mother who isn't sure if her child will survive.
Mainawati in the same situation would probably have surrendered to multiple fits of fainting.
Mahamanga on the other hand shows what steel she is made of. And why she is a Wazir-e-ala...Ashwini had been hamming too much recently...but on Monday she was brilliant!
Extract:
They just meandered on bizarrely, one moment he is mauled in bright sunlight, next they are soaked by rain in near dark. What happened in the interim?
Even granting that he is partly conscious when they both get on the horse, later she hauls him up on the horse in the same position as Jalal did once for Abdul, head hanging down. How can she hoist such a dead weight on to the horse, at least 4 feet high?
Lastly, how close are they to Agra, and why do they not prepare a makeshift litter and carry him in that, without letting the blood rush to his head continuously like that?
One more bloomer: she should have used her dupatta to tied him to her on the horse. it could have been done very decently. The dupatta is as wide as a normal saree. You need the length for tying themselves together, not the width. It could have been torn in half widthwise and the full 5 yards length used very effectively, and she could still have used the other half width as a dupatta.
And where is Motibai when she is needed the most? Has she eloped with Abdul??😉
Ahem...here I do have inside information...but...My lips are sealed 😉
Cheer up, darling, things can only look up from now on. To aid in the process, take a look at my scolding of Alakh, Tripti & Co., on pages 8&9, including my take (with apologies to the Bard of Avon) on the Six Stages of Romantic Love. It will do you some good!
Will do 😃 I'm not exaclty heartbroken, its just that like a fool I keep expecting sense and logic from a Balaji saop. So this cheering was something I did need.
Affectionately,
Shyamala
