Disclaimer: NOT AT ALL HISTORICALLY ACCURATE-THE CHARACTERIZATIONS, SOME OF THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES, AND THE EVENTS. PURE FICTION. Derived from pride and prejudice by Jane Austen, but loosely in the sense that not all events in the book will be a part of this story nor will all events in the story be a part of the book. Also parts of Jodha Akbar (the movie and the show). Basically characters and emotions from a bunch of different places portrayed to my liking. In the end, don't take offense for any reason, this story was to satisfy my creative needs.

Pride & Prejudice

The Mughal Edition
Prologue:

"Even for a Mughal Emperor, such unapologetic and excessive Pride is unhealthy,"

"Neither does such your Prejudice on my character nor The Mughal Sultanat suit you Rajkumari-sa,"

She hated his posh behavior and scornful regard of all those lower than him. His inappropriate manner and word choice. The awkwardness he feigned when she was in the vicinity. Rajkumari Jodha despised and would always despise everything about Shenhensha-e-Hindustan, even if it was illegal.

Her improper tone, her uncouth manners, so very unladylike, they all disgusted him. Her flowing opinions without a filter, her ignorance and taunts, left him frustrated. He cursed his misfortune for being acquainted and required to act with civility around her and her hysterically unfit family.

Tsk, tsk, tsk... With such strong opinions of each other, these two have yet to realize that between Pride and Prejudice, one could very easily miss what has been right there in front of them, all along.

It's 4:30 AM here. I started writing at 11.

I couldn't stop once I started, I've never been so excited about a story before. I think I've written more chapters in once sitting than I ever had in my entire life. When reading Pride and Prejudice for the billionth time recently, I wondered what it'd be like to be to be apart of the story in such a historical time period. I couldn't be Darcy's Elizabeth for I was Indian. And I wanted the historic aspect to the story to be there. Surely enough, then I watched the day's episode of Jodha Akbar. I put two and two together and decided I wanted to write an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, keeping it's historic beauty and mannerisms constant through an Indian narration. I will be writing this story in my own way, mixing and creating different scenarios. For those of you that've read the book don't spoil it for others, for those of you that haven't read it when I'm done with this FF! It's beautiful.

Alright this is getting long,

Caio!

-Shweta

Pride & Prejudice
The Mughal Edition

Chapter 1

"Do you hear my dear lord, the Mughal's are visiting Amer," Her over-reacting Maa-Sa pestered her dear King for the 54th time that day.

"I'm afraid it hasn't been mentioned once in this fine palace, I'm completely unaware my dear Queen," he teased.

"Oh dear your inappropriate humor will be the death of me! Must you tease me so?" she fanned herself resting herself on the King's bed.

"I understand most beloved, your exasperation, but what are we to do? The Mughals have offered to either take over our kingdoms, or allow us to govern under them, almost as a territory. And I will not, at any cost accept to rule under anyone, especially those Mughals. Those heartless brutes."

"Dear what am I going to do with you? Don't you see the more important underlying situations that are to arise? Once we lose our kingdom, who is to marry our daughters? We have five of them! Five unmarried daughters, no kingdom or fortune, what are we to do? Marry them off to a commoner? My dear, do something please."

"My dear, do not doubt my love for you but do not question my loyalty to my kingdom either. I would rather be a pauper than destroy it with my own hands,"

"But with your hands or another, it is to be under the Mughal's rule regardless. My dear pleas..."

"Enough! Not another word my dear Queen, this matter has been discussed and my decision is final. As for our daughters, their virtues are divine, I am not the least bit worried about their future for I'm sure great things are in store for them. Great things I tell you! Especially my dear Jodha."

"Your dear Jodha will certainly remain a spinster if it were up to her, it was unfortunate I was so heavily in labor in the years of her development. She is just another you! Insolent and improper!"

"Speaking one's mind does not make him improper my dear, you've had more than enough woes to handle for a day. Shubh ratri."

***

All night in her chamber, Rani-Sa tossed and turned. She thought of Raj-Kumars or even Rajas that wouldn't object to a shotgun wedding. But to no avail.

She remembered discussing the matter with her second youngest and favorite daughter Laabha, but all she inquired about was if the physicality of the Mughals. Useless sometimes she was, but still her dearest for she understood her the most amongst all her daughters. Charvi following her elder sister Laabha's steps, she was also delightful. Manvi, the Queen hardly ever saw much of her, roaming around the palace absorbed in her own world, the third eldest. Jaina, the eldest, what was she going to do with her? Her kindness was her biggest weakness, which was why her fellow Raj-Kumaris from the neighboring kingdoms had all managed to wed every eligible bachelor Prince there was. But none of them were as beautiful as her Jaina might she add.

And then there was Jodha, the problem child. Whenever approached, she either scared off the suitor with her knowledge or insulted him with the lack of his own. Unfit to be a Princess sometimes, but what can she do, she labored over her for 9 months, and there was still innate attachment that could not be removed. And with attachment came worry.

Her dear King's pride would be the death of her someday, why couldn't he just agree to the treaty? But she knew he would rather die than do so, with the image that has been painted of the Mughals, the last he would want to do is to follow their orders.

Emperor Jalaludin Mohammad Akbar would show no understanding, even the offer to choose the path of our defeat came as a surprise. Perhaps the King could negotiate terms with the Emperor. Perhaps instead of governing under, the King could offer the Emperor a monthly amount. Rent in a way, for being able to rule the land the Emperor had won. The King should negotiate something, anything!

Yes that would be it! She thanked her Lord Krishna for showing her way. The king must agree to this at once.

For the clingy AkDha fans (including myself) they will be making an appearance in the next few chapters, sabr ka phal meetha hota hai and I assure it'll be very "meetha." But I loved Mr. Bennet so much I couldn't simply skip over him. And this was necessary to set the stage. More coming on Sunday!

I have read Pride and Prejudice for the first time when i was 14 years. now its been 20 years still i remember every chapter of the pride and prejudice. when ever i feel low i start reading this book.

I don't watch TV serials much. As much as I love "Pride and Prejudice" , I love History too and in History I love to read about the King Akbar, so Only i watch is Jodha Akbar on TV and have the time in the IF to read more about Jodha and Akbar.

So it will be very interesting for me to have both my loves in one. Thanks a lot for this FF. Please do PM me.

This is an FF. I just want you to know that I suck at sticking to FFs. I do it to Jassu all the time. I read past halfway and then just stop. I don't know why. I just can't get myself to reading more ever...
So, if you update and don't see me commenting, don't mind aha.

First, "Tsk, tsk, tsk... With such strong opinions of each other, these two have yet to realize that between Pride and Prejudice, one could very easily miss what has been right there in front of them, all along." <- I loved that.

I think it's time I read Pride and Prejudice again now. Starting tonight.

Now for Chapter One.

Omg. Just read the first section and I totally sense the P&P in this. Wow Shwetu! I love it.
"Speaking one's mind does not make him improper my dear" Exactly. Love that. I am glad you stayed awake until 430am to write this lol.

Ah! The sisters! I see Elizabeth in Jodha already!

"And then there was Jodha, the problem child. Whenever approached, she either scared off the suitor with her knowledge or insulted him with the lack of his own."

This story excites me. Since I am attached to P&P, I have a feeling I'll become attached to this. So please do not leave this hanging like 4LL. Yes, just like Jassu, I will never let that go.

I am looking forward to this. It's very well written which is a plus! And as I've said many times before, I love your writing Shwetu.

Honestly, I just read this like 30 minutes ago or something and I already want chapter two. I might just turn into an annoying reader who constantly asks for updates. Just warning you beforehand.
