MA-JALAL
'This dibbi has the secret to the murder of my unborn child' Jalal tells his Badi Ammi with conviction
[What I'm impressed is Jalal didn't tell her about having found it at Salima's room.]
'Just be certain that the person from whose room I've obtained this is well and truly incapable of committing something as heinous as this...' he tells her 'I have no reason to suspect that person'
MA is left tormented - its possibly the first time that she is being left in the dark about something so sinister - something that involved HER!
JALAL-JODHA
Jalal comes to Jodha's chamber of which she receives an intimation in the form of an announcement. Upon his arrival, all her maids stand up and leave the room a few moments later. However, Jodha continues with her Arthi defiantly.
As Jalal steps in, he recollects a scene from their past where she'd asked him to remove his shoes before he walked into her temple. Therefore, he takes a step back and respectfully does the same - leaving his favourite shoes outside her favourite Mandir!
Then he waits for her to finish her Arthi
He waits..
He starts pacing behind her...
He sits on a couch - one can see his impatience rising!
Then, just on time, Jodha finishes her rituals and stands up to offer him the Arthi.
Taking a moment to stare at the plate and the Arthi, Jalal then accepts it in a somewhat uncertain rigid manner.
'The reason you're here' she shoots off straightaway
'This box..this is the very evidence based on which you and your brothers have been proved innocent'
'Why have you brought this here?' she queries him - with no expression on her face
'I need to know if you know anything about it'
'No'
'Do you think your brothers might know anything about it?' he asks grimly
'Then, why don't you ask them yourself...they have not left Agra yet..why don't you interrogate them and allay your suspicions?'
He gets annoyed 'I am NOT suspecting you Jodha Begum...just trying to investigate the matter...'
She starts venting her frustrations 'If you hadn't placed me under house-arrest...my brothers and Amer would not have been humiliated thus...my self-respect would not have been hurt'
'I am not here to argue with you...I know you and your brothers are innocent...hence, I proclaimed them mansabdaars openly in court'
'You did so NOT to honour them, but only to HIDE your faults' she corrects him
He grits his teeth 'Jodha Begum..in front of everyone I've declared you innocent and freed you'
There is a long silence in the room.
The stern queen then looks around, picks up a glass pot and throws it on the ground - taking Jalal completely by shock!
'Rebuilding this broken pot like it was before is impossible...self-respect and relationships are both like glass...once broken, they cannot be repaired...and even if they are repaired, permanent marks are left behind Shehenshah!' she advises him 'How much ever you try...what you've done is done...nothing can go back to what it was'
Offended by her actions, he claps his hand with authority and summons the maids
'Pick up all of these pieces of glass and have them delivered to my room'
He turns to address her 'You'll get an apt reply for this deed of yours' he pauses 'DEFINITELY!'
Before proceeding to wear his slippers, he turns around to glare at her once more and then storms away.
[What a commendable scene this was. Neither was Jodha sobbing, nor was she ranting in her shrill-pitched ghrina mode! Her frustrations were restricted to one line. Plus, the act of breaking the pot was less offensive than I'd feared it'd be. Actually, she did it to fearlessly prove a point - though one must realize that Jalal was there to investigate and not make amends! However, what I am even more glad about is that Jalal was not acting like a whimpering fool. He clearly stated that he'd absolved her of all accusations in court with no hidden agenda in it and didn't drag the matter further. He also didn't like her startling form of retaliation and made it known! I hope he gives her a witty reply for her actions...
Oh! How I'd love to watch the witty battle of two shrew adversaries who're thereafter meant to fall in love!]
THE RESPECTABLE MUGHAL LADIES
It was nice to watch the Mughal ladies discussing some very important aspects of history, politics, plots and schemes during the course of Gulbadan Begum writing about the HumayunNama. [A bit of true history Ekta was sticking to here!👏] From the well-directed well-placed political discussions it was quite obvious that MA derived a few ideas that she planned to utilize to prove herself innocent in the MC kaand!
MA is such a shrewd lady - even the manner in which she shuts her naive Javeeda up is admirable!
THE AMERI MEN AT AGRA
Finally we get to see Teddy dad - Raja Bharmal...it was also nice to watch Jodha's brothers (other than BD) speak...their conversations and discussions did make sense - Who's to blame? Should we leave? Should we stay? Should we be offended? Should we praise Jalal?😆
SALIMA - JODHA
The dibbi makes its presence known here too- in the short conversation that Salima and Jodha have. [Needless to say, Jodha is least perturbed at this point of time about her husband's whereabouts - esp when Salima said 'Kal raat Shehenshah hamaare paas aaye the!' She is only worried about the dibbi!]
JALAL'S LATEST LOVE - THE DIBBI
While our resident Nancy Drew gets all worried about the dibbi and decides to investigate...on the other hand, we have Jalal sitting by himself staring at the very object that seemed to be the star of today's episode!
'This murderer is so clever...in one go, he/she is entrapping three of my Begums!' he talks to himself [For some reason I just couldn't help laughing when he uttered this!]
Just when Jalal is having a staring contest with the dibbi - reliving all the disturbing incidents of the recent past, Rahim runs into the king's room.
Watching the emperor transfixed with the dibbi, he gets scared and runs off to his choti-ammi Jodha!
RAHIM-JODHA
'Shehenshah will imprison me...' Rahim confides in his choti-ammi 'I've committed a mistake'
Concerned for the child, Jodha prods him to find out more
'I've stolen something' Rahim confesses sadly
'Firstly, thieving is wrong' she chides him lovingly 'And...Shehenshah loves you so much, you should have told him about what you did' [WOAH woah woah what is this I hear JB...you praising your Shauhar!]
When Rahim is worried about the repercussions of his actions Jodha asks him to repeat everything that happened and that's how she learns of the truth!
Apparently, Rahim was hiding in a trunk in the kitchen when MA was carrying out her dastardly deed of poisoning the Kesar. The unfortunate boy ended up witnessing everything! Following the incident, he'd picked the box and ran away with it too - which found its way to Salima's chamber in due course!
Without realizing it, the poor lil one had uttered the entire nasty truth to Jodha. The queen is spun into a maze of confusion! Disturbed by the facts, she hugs the child - unable to come to terms with MA's dark reality!
This scene was quite well taken too. At least, we know Jodha is capable of having a balanced view of Jalal despite her immense hatred for him now. Like we'd guessed, Rahim is at the centre of it all!
