What an absolutely beautiful and perceptive take on Vicky's original, and predictably excellent post! It deserves multiple curtain calls, or the literary equivalent thereof. I agree with all it, unreservedly, bar one point, but the parts in blue are those I like best of all, with top prize going to default setting.

Where I have a reservation. I do not think Jodha understands Jalal's trauma at all. She grieves for Ruqaiya, who has always gone out of her way to be nasty to her, but she says not a word to Moti about the husband who, just the day before, showed her so much warmth, admiration and respect.

I think she was shell-shocked and even now, as I wrote in my latest post on Episode 57, Bhool Bhulaiyya:

She seems almost like a transparent sheet of glass, which, in the correct lighting, is practically invisible. She seems to understand but little of what might well happen to her and hers; even in the jaws of catastrophe, all she thinks of is the reputation of Amer and the diya bati for her Kanha not being interrupted. Admirable stoicism, no doubt, but a bit more of coherent and intelligent thinking thru of her situation might have been more useful.

She does not even speculate as to the likely culprit: the contrast with Mansingh is striking. One has to remember that this is not some silly, giggling royal wench like Sukanya. This is Jodha, with the brains of a chess grandmaster and the acuity of mind of a fine duellist. What has happened to all that? We have yet to see what, if anything, about the case that she tells Jalal when she is summoned to meet him, but the precap does not sound at all promising, from either side. She is defiantly protective of her father, and he is, as usual, sounding mindlessly aggressive. One despairs of both of them, and is strongly tempted to say A plague on both your houses!

Once again, I loved your post.

Thank you so much for putting things in perspective and being the voice of reason MK!

As you rightly pointed out, this is Jalaal, a devastated, emotionally wrecked and heartbroken boy king. For some reason, ever since the tragedy, Jalaal has been reminding me of a wounded lion. A usually detached, calm and collected Jalaal is dealing with grief inside but instead of just roaring or licking his wounds in the dark, he often goes out and seeks Ruqiyya, checking on her, sharing her grief.

More over, him lashing out like that made complete sense. Of course when traumatised to his core, Jalaal would leave all rationality and reason and revert to his default setting. One Bairam Khan and Maham Anga have groomed and nurtured since childhood - that of a raging, bloodthirsty warrior that attacks first and asks questions later. To fall back on those principles now would give him a sense of direction and as he hopes some respite from the torment he feels inside.

Somehow, I also felt that somewhere and in some ways, Jalaal holds himself responsible too. He blames himself for not seeing it coming, for not being better prepared, for not protected his unborn baby and perhaps the worst sin of all - for softening up. Something Bairam Khan had always cautioned him against.

I just hope that all this venting, raging and roaring would somehow give way to the healing process and for the sake of the rest of the palace vaasis, I hope it happens soon!

Also, did you notice how Jodha stayed calm and quiet throughout the court proceedings and even earlier in her chambers when he first accused her. I thought that was quite a change in the usually fiery Rajput princess. She understood his pain and for the first time wasn't charging at him even as he wrongly accused her.
As always, your posts are a pleasure to read. 😊

My dear Vicki,

If it was not that I have an eye problem and have to ration my time at the laptop, I would be writing half the comments on every thread of yours, for you are a girl after my own heart.

You were bound to have a peppy name like Vicki!

Well written! 👏👏..
Now he's just learning... With each experience he is learning something more.. N from ' jalal' he will bcom 'Akbar'...
But at present I feel even more than Jalal he is acting more like a father who is wronged.. Some1 has taken his unborn child's life, now he has to bring them to justice.. But the impatience n intolerance is very much 'Jalal'...
