Shyamala:
I liked what you have written, because I guess, heart of hearts, I too want Jodha not to miss Suryabhan too much and to reserve her depth of emotion for Jalal. And you are right ... in those times when beheading was more common, it must have been not all that harsh for a girl of Jodha's steely quality.
I guess I am reacting not to the overall question of Jodha's depth of linkage with Suryabhan, but more to the way the scene was directed. Maybe that is what gave me the slight distaste. It looked disjointed as if there was a lot of bad editing, and the impact one expects of a scene like this was not there for me. Maybe the real strength of Jodha's response - that steely quality that you write of - was a bit lost in the editing.

actually it was the bad editing responsible for lack of impact..i agree with you...the scene was badly edited and dubbed...and Shyamala has so aptly written the emotional quotient of that scene and i agree completely with her about Jodha Suryabhan equation and her reactions...

Jodha is the only one among the Rajputs who actually behaves like one ,she is courageous and positive and strong when needed inspite of being surrounded by a group of hyper screeching women...i loved how she composed herself and prioritised her family and Amer before herself...

one thing that had me in rofling even though it was a sad scene was her first flashback after learning abt suryabhan's death was his declaration to get Jalal's head for her🤣..

Poor Suryabhan, he was so completely fixated with Jalal's head on a platter, that he forgot to protect his own I guess!😆😉 Waise, talking of cut heads, I thought the size of the cut head in that yellow cloth was too small to be Suryabhan's. Sorry if I am being too fine on the details, but kya karen, my eye for the ridiculous was a bit too active yesterday!

shyamala aunty said it all👏... i agree with her points...
There was a discussion in some other place abt whether Jodha is in love with Suryaban. What we got concluded from that discussion is she does not love him. She likes him of course but not love... She or Jalal has not experience the love thing as todate...
Look at Jodha n suryaban convo, each time when they talk, Jalal is mentioned... Jalal head... Jalal this... Both of them never talk abt them 😆 Jalal must be very happy to listen that...
I think Jodha reaction was pretty good yday... in fact better compared to earlier ones... I love it how even though she was broken, she told the king her father to save others that matters. Not weeping n weeping...
The flashback of Jodha remebering Suryaban was reaally good.. I guess only for this flashback we got jodha n suryaban scenes earlier...😆 Poor sunshine got killed...😆

Yeah me too. I was also disappointed with her reaction. I thought she would be broken after hearing the news.

I agree about the shoddy direction and editing of that scene, Mansi, but I no longer expect anything much of their Amer scenes anyway.

Think of the comedy circus the day before, when Bharmal, his pot belly bouncing in step, held his sword upright and rushed pell mell to the open gates😉! If there had been a hundred Mughal soldiers, they would have barged in without even having to batter down the gates. No lookout, no warning system, no contingency planning for a defeat that Bharmal at least is expecting from the word go, and which Bhagwan Das had been specificallu tasked with performing. And this chap is going to rule Amer?

So, I was not too bothered with all the goof ups yesterday that you have rightly noted. I concentrated instead on the Agra scenes. Mahaam Anga's angry bewilderment at the sudden downturn of her fortunes (which also remphasised the fact that they all, in the ultimate analysis, depend on Jalal, not the other way around) was very well done, and I admired the impeccable self-control with which she took it on the chin, unblinkingly, when Jalal announced that he would give his sister's hand to Sharifuddin, not her son Adham. It is this kind of iron discipline that keeps her afloat, and at the top of her game, amidst all the treacherous eddies and whirlpools in the Mughal court.

Really? But I was actually rather impressed with the scene myself. I was bracing myself for an over-the-top emotional tragedy after Suryabhan's death, but what I got was a perfectly understated and calm scene. I was impressed with Jodha and how she handled her grief with maturity and grace of a true princess. The editing was bad, but even then Jodha's reaction was suitable for a princess. And honestly. Jodha had no deep feelings for Suryabhan, even her memories of Suryabhan is linked with Jalal. Her memory scenes were nicely done, I was laughing out loud how she only remembered Suryabhan in relation to Jalal. And forgot to remember his declarations of love and all that jazz. 😆

Dear Shyamala aunty,

If this story was not a work of fiction and completely true, then I am sure you were present in the16th century, amongst these royals, and now helping us to understand the intricate emotions and what actually went on back then! That awesome you are with explaining everything so beautifully to us 😊
