Abhijeet on a high note

Abhijeet Sawant
When Abhijeet Sawant became the first Indian Idol in the year 2005, it was a time when reality shows were on the rise.

In 2008, when reality shows are a dime a dozen on each and every channel, Abhijeet is again part of the reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar . Doesn't he find it boring to be a part of a reality show again?

"The Indian tendency is – jo cheez chal jaati hai, usko dus baar chalaate hain ," says Abhijeet, "But the USP of this show is that all singers in this show are the winners and runners-up from other reality shows, so that's where the freshness of the concept lies."

The singer is happy with his journey so far. "I didn't think I would get a good start like this so early in my career. This platform came really early and I'm really grateful to God for it," he says. The one thing Abhijeet's glad about is that he has managed to stay away from controversies. "Although some or the other thing happens once in a while," he smiles and adds, "But more or less, I stay away from them. I lead a simple life and I'm happily married, so I guess that helps."

Fresh from the success of his second album Junoon , the singer is hoping to find success in acting too. His debut film Lottery is a romantic thriller and Abhijeet is quite excited about it.

"The character I play is an underdog, he's an accountant working in a fashion magazine. Some strange things happen in his life which he finds himself trapped," he explains. But Abhijeet is clear that more than acting, it's playback singing he's concentrating on. "Talks are on for anchoring shows on television but nothing has been finalised as yet," he says.
