classical vs non -classical singer battle

There have been quite few threads about classical singer and non classical singers and whos deserving and who r the real singers etc etc. i just wanted to make few points clear here ...

a) there is a difference between a classical singer and classically trained singer.. a classically trained singer is a person who has learnt classical music and i am sure most of the singers here on JJWS are classically trained singers. cos if they havent they would not have been able to sing songs with high peach and high notes and low notes

b) a classical singer is a person who sings classical songs or whose voice is suited for singing clasical music.. these singers rely morely on Sargams , harakats and diiffernr rags.

c) as for JJWS , i feel all the singers are classically trained and they have learnt raags and sargams too .. but they rely more on music , rhythm and tone of the songs .. while classical singer relies morely on Rags and variations of sargams and Naad..

now i come to the battle thats going on here which is mostly Toshi vs other singers

my points about this

a) Toshi is an amazingly talented singer. he is a complete classical singer. for two reasons 1) he is almost right classicaly and also his voice is suited for classical singer.. we can say that classical songs are his specialization.. as he is a trained singer i am sure he can singer other formats of the songs too but as his voice is suited for clasical or sufi style u love his clasical songs more..

Just like pt. jasaraj ji said in SRGMP to Poonam .. that u are an amazing singer but if u choose classical signing you ll be more succesfull.

lemme make it clear that i dont mean that toshi cant be a good playback singer .. i am sure he can.. but he ll always sing those different and special songs.. and

b) as for others including abhijeet , rahul or harshit , debojit etc . they have also learned clasical singing but there voice is more suited for playback singing . but just because they sing simpler or more hummable songs that doesnt make them weak or normal singers,

e.g

a) sonu nigam who u would agree is an accomplished singer .. he is classically trained singer too .. he just came out with classically mild album but he has also sung songs like My name is ali or javed bhai so re le , that doesnt mean he is a weak singer

b) simillarly sukhwinder sing too who is a classical singer.. but he has also sung songs like dard - e - disco or dil dance mare

c) kishore Da who is probably the best singer in India ever never learned classical music completely.

i believe the great singers are the singers who can sing any song with purity and simplicity. i think all the singers in JJWS are capable of achieving that status.

I hope i have not hurt anyone's feelings here , if un-intenionally ..

everybody has their own favourites and we do get sad or feel bad when others criticise them but at the same time we must also respect each others opinions and feelings

well said....completely agree with you...it went to my bone!

i get a feeling tht the reason toshi is failing of late is bcoz he is trying to incorporate his classical knowledge a lot in his singing while not able to feel the song.

If Toshi is a classical singer why does he go out of sur.?? 😕 If you are very well classically trained u will immediately knw if u hav gone out of sur... all of dem are classically trained... but probably not extensively trained... mst hav learned music for 5- 6 yrs...

Are You Trying To say that Toshi can't sing soft songs ....

Flashback Time

Toshi has sung Laagi tumse Man Ki lagan,Din dhal jaye,In dino,Chand Sifarsh

Toshi has not only sung Classiacal songs but simple songs also...............But if he adds his Sargams and all you people find it annoying ....What do you pp actually want the poor boy to do............

And What special and different songs He shares the same genre as Sukhwinder,Kailash kher,Nursrat Fateh,Rahat Fateh,Shafqat Amanat Ali,Shakar Mahadevan,Manna Dey.............And Like Sukhwinder Toshi has also sung songs like Dard-e-Disco,Lagan Lagi,Upar Khuda And some other songs they are not purely classical could be mild classiacal but some our the type of songs people like to hear nowdays...............

Now Tell Me do you always like to hear soft romanitc song you would but sometimes you might also want to hear to Sufi and Classical songs......And I think the way Classical music is vanishing from ther music industry.....And the way talent like Toshi is being underrated..........I am just scared for the future of Classical Music In India Which Is Classical Music's Birth Place........

Kishore Da Along With Mohd.Rafi Are the Best singers in India........................to have never lrnd Classical Music Properly.But Singgers Like Manna Dey And Sehgal And Talat Mehmood Also Held their ground with them.....................................................

So it means That the way people on this forum are respecting Abhijeet Harshit and list continues They should also respect Toshi's talent.......

hello .. i respect ur judgement and i think u got me wrong .. i never once said that i dont respect toshi or i never said that he is not a good singer"

even i mentioned that he can be good playback singer .. the meaning of different songs is in the way u sumed up that point with reference to manna dey or kailash kher ..


what i am saying is he will always get those different songs which requires different voice.. and i am not saying that he cant sing for mainsteram actors .. the singers you mentioned manna dey , sukhwinder have all sung for top heroes too

what i clearly meant to say was that there is a difference between classical singer and classically learned singer ..

and the end of the day music is music... i hope you got my point ..
