5 things that need to GO ASAP from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded, Dance India Dance 5, Nach Baliye, and other dance shows!

There are typical events seen in these shows that have been done to death and need to go right away!

Dance reality TV shows in India have been popular ever since the Boogie Woogie' days. This dance show was preceded by others like Dance India Dance, Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.Where DID is popular for showcasing raw talent chosen from unknown gullies in India, JDJ and NB are a hit for flaunting celebrities and their somewhat happening dancing skills. These shows become grander and more magnanimous with each passing season. Along with dance acts, they ensure entertainment to the viewers.

But there are certain events that are repeated in each of these shows and have been done to death. It's obvious that these elements are included in the format to rake in TRPs. What's needed is a big change and a nonsense- free approach to dance reality shows. Here's my list of 5 things that the makers of Nach, Jhalak and DID need to do away with ASAP:

Sun raha hai na tu? Ro raha hoon mein...

The minute a contestant's performance is over, I know there's a sob story coming my way. Be it dancers and their dukh bhari daastan on how their parents don't support them, a Nach Jodi on how they have faced hardships and made it, or how a Jhalak contestant has "worked so hard to get here," the waterworks always find their way and I find myself yawning. STOP with the crying! Everyone goes through a rough patch, but there's no need to make a dance show into a mutual sorrow sharing centre. C'mon!

Joke tha?

The first season of DID was the only one where I could somewhat stand Jay Bhanushali's ridiculous humour. Soon, his banter with Dada' aka Mithun Chakraborty became dry. Now, Dada rags Jay, the latter blushes, gets embarrassed and has no comebacks. Daf**k! Similar was the case with Nach Baliye 7s hosts Karan Patel and Rithivk Dhanjani who stuck to their patent, not-so-funny lines and failed to create an impression. The only host who manages to sail through is JDJ Reloaded's Manish Paul. Coming to JDJ, I'm glad Madhuri Dixit Nene isn't on the panel this season or else the kanta would have had to bear the brunt of her shaking a leg to EACH and EVERY song she has performed in her career, EVER. I get she's a dancing legend. I get it. Coming back to fu**kall humour, a shout out to makers of Dance Plus who murdered their own show, owing to nonsensical gimmicks and unwanted drama. Stick to showcasing high quality dancing and you will get your TRPs.

Papa kehte hain bada naam karega

Thankfully introduction to family members isn't seen in JDJ or Nach but is sadly a trend in DID and now Dance Plus. A contestant's story never ends at his/ her dancing. Every dancer's background story is told where it's revealed how poor they are. Then, the profession of their parents is brought to light. Like that isn't enough, the contestants are asked to get their parents on stage and soon the mother or father start sobbing, stating how proud they are of their dulaara betas or betis.' And out of nowhere, the dance show turns into a mourning session where everyone is fighting tears. What?

Kya pata, kal ho naa ho

Not only do dance reality shows like DID present how economically unstable our contestants are but also manage to rake in TRPs through sob stories involving a dancer's relative's illness. Be it a boy's mothers having brain tumor or a mother's little girl suffering from a rare ailment, the producers make it a point to play on the same. The contestant ends up getting sympathy votes, and sadly, this is used as a medium for publicity.

Naach meri jaan naach

A celebrity judge should be treated with royalty. But if I see one more contestant requesting an actor for a dance, I will slap someone. Two twirls, one thumka and a bow- that's precisely what makes a dance routine between the celebrity judge and the contestant.

I think it's time the makers do away with these elements and try introducing a season with a fresh take. Enough is enough!

few points are good...few are totally mean...
jay is bearable since season 1 till now...where as manish is losing his charm...hope raghav remains intact...
emotional drama is not required but a bit is required to connect with audience...
nd yes that celeb puja is pathetic

LMAO This is a fabulous article!! And I can only talk about celebrity dance shows as I have never watched the other kind.. as I am not someone interested in dance for the heck of it.. I watch only cz celebs perform..like in NB and JDJ..

Coming to the article SO SO TRUE!! Do away with ur damned sob stories!! If u do 10 shows and have no time to rehearse it is ur own bloody fault for not knowing ur limit.. quit sobbing and sympathy tears already!! It is lame and annoying considering you are paid two pay checks for doing 2 shows and not there for charity..

And seriously glad MD is FAR FAR away!! So they really did away with one of the biggest annoyances of JDJ this year thankfully..

umm.. asking celeb judges to dance for a bit is kinda cute sometimes., I don't mind that to be honest, that first day Radhika' bit with Shahid was sweet...

And ya, the toilet humor.., it is no longer FUNNY.. Give class instead of crass please!!

nice article overall..

Nice article...I agree especialy with @red:

Agree with all of them. All these extra gimmicks and filler stuff take away from what should really be the focus - DANCE!

Lol, you mean Lauren's Hindi, I hope!!! If she did away with her English, we would have to hear her Hindi!!! 😆 And manish's lame jokes are passing the line between funny and insulting ... he needs to lay off now. Singling out one participant every single time is not funny.

Agree with you totally on 5 ... why is Sanaya always on Sunday? Four weeks in a row? Is this some intricate strategy of Colors, and if so, how exactly does it work? 😕

Fabulous article, TFS! 😆
