Hi Friends,
I am not new to this forum but I was away for long time. I have a question, specially to those in this forum who knows a lot about dancing and who are some how involved in stage performances etc... but everyone is welcome to give their opinion.
Is aerial act a particular dance form? I always felt dance need to be done on floor. I thought-may be I am not aware of exact theory.
Seeing JDJ 5 and 6, I had a feeling that aerial acts and lifts are given too much importance in a dance. Once judges give too much importance to such acts definitely participants will do it to impress them. But does it fall in the dance category?
Or
I have misunderstood JDJ, is it about a dance or any performance/act?
Or
Simple dance will be boring and aerial acts and lifts must be needed for entertainment.

Aerial is a dance form, many contestants are seen doing this form a lot. Technically it involves risk, so when a contestant performs it, normally the spectators are awed, so practically it helps to score big numbers keeping in mind the risk involved cos as far as I've seen, no aerial act is given low scores. But this season, certain choreo has been infected by lifts mania 😆 that particular jodi kept taking candy bars until they did lifts, when they started performing on floor, there was a fallout of 22 mark 😆

I have a similar question. I have seen a lot of places they do dance performances which is aerial, but is it a dance form in traditional sense? If not is it an offshoot of any other dance form? Also in many places I have seen performances done in water, where they would create a transparent rig filled with water and would perform in that, is that a dance form as well?

From Wikipedia- Aerial modern dance is a sub-genre of modern dance first recognized in the United States in the 1970s. The choreography incorporates an apparatus often attached to the ceiling, allowing performers to explore space in three-dimensions. The ability to incorporate vertical, as well as horizontal movement paths, allows for innovations in choreography and movement vocabulary.

aerial and lifts are not a particuler dance form. lifts are just a part of dance forms. also is aerial. there is no pure dance form named aerial. it's just added on the choreography to make the performance more powerful, jaw dropping to the audience. it increase the beauty of a performence.
