Now that India's ex-coach in hockey Mir Ranjan Negi has had a successful run on television, he has set his sights higher. He is set to act in films now. Post-Jhalak Dikhhla Ja, where he became a favourite with viewers, Negi has been getting a lot of offers from film producers.

So the coach-turned- performer has made up his mind to take up a career in films seriously and cash in on his popularity. Mir is joining Shiamak Davar's dance classes and watching DVDs to prepare for his filmi career (he has not been a film buff so far, at all).

So, why the sudden decision to join films? Says Mir, "Jhalak… has changed my life completely. I am now considered a celebrity everywhere and people recognise me wherever I go. I am getting calls from so many film producers and directors with meaty roles that I have made up my mind to give it a try. I get invites every day to ceremonies, functions and awards events.

I recently got an offer to work in a music-based reality show on television. I will only do different stuff, not take up the run-of-the-mill kind of roles. I cannot stop here, I took up Jhalak…as I wanted to put glamour and money into hockey. I won't stop here, I will be around for more glamour and be part of the film industry."

And what are the offers looking like? Adds Mir, "I have got offers from producers like Nikhil Mathur, and others. It feels good to get so much acclaim and become a star overnight."

Negi is looking at roles that will suit him. He says, "I am game for sports-related roles, I'd like to play a coach. I don't want to act just for the heck of it or just for popularity. I am joining dance classes, as I am very enthusiastic about acting.

I have experimented with dancing and acting won't be that difficult, I am sure. Acting is all about body language and facial expressions - that's what I have learnt from my choreographer in Jhalak… I don't mind singing and dancing for my films, it's part and parcel of the medium."
