I strongly feel that a Sandhya or a Shweta will never be able to win against a Prachi or a Mona. Although last year too I wanted Shweta to win and this year would be happy to see Sandhya win just because to me they are Confident and opinionated women but I know in my heart that this can never happen. The reason I feel are primarily 2 in contests such as these :
I) Tangible Factors:
It is never a talent contest with only a few people votes are based on performances. Whether it is SRGMP, NB, Idol, VOI or JDJ, majority people never vote based on performance but the votes (mostly) are on Regionalism & Popularity.
Where the contestants are unknown like I Idol or SRGMP then the Regionalism factor is greatest in deciding the winner and popularity (looks, other skills, background) is lesser.
When the contestants are known to audiences like NB, JDJ, JI then the Popularity is more important and Regionalism is little lesser (but still present like Prachi will get more votes from Guj, Mika from Punjab, Sonali from Maharashtra).
II) Non-Tangible Factors:
These factors are primarily the Perception or the Image the contestant carries in the mind of the audience. The audience may perceive you as good or bad based on your image Or the get atached to any contestant due to his background or something which touches their heart (Ravinder Ravi / Poonam Yadav). It is also unfortunate that in todays time of Regressive TV serials, the audience has a very well etched images of how women should be and if they see someone which is different from that image then she is cast as Not-Acceptable or arrogant.
So now that its the final and only dependence is on votes (without judges say) and you compare the top contenders based on these factors :
1) Popularity : A Sandhya or a Shweta can never compete on popularity with a Prachi or Mona as Leading TV stars (main protagonist) have tremendous appeal and fan following.
2) Regionalism : For someone like Sandhya, regionalism is not in her favour as she is more of a generic version and you cant put her in a particular regional category. While Prachi or Mona have a well etched regional identity of Gujarat or Punjab.
3) Image / Perception : People will always perceive Prachi as the perfect Bahu or the traditional Indian women with all customs and rituals while a Sandy will struggle to create a positive perception in minds of people due to her being unconventional.
Hence, I feel that Sandhya can never win against Prachi (even if she dances better) till majority of voting people have change in their thinking.
