Sudha Chandran, popular as Ramola Sicand from Kahin Kissi Roz, is an inspiration for generations.
25 years back she lost a leg in an accident but this Nache Mayuri girl has moved on in life and achieved a lot. Currently, participating in Jhalak Dikhlaja, she gets nostalgic as she turns the clock back for us.
"I remember I came to Mumbai when I was just 16-years-old and worked in Telugu films but before I could make a mark, I lost my right leg in a ghastly bus accident. My career could have ended there but thanks to Dr. P K Sethi - who made me to walk with a Jaipur foot - I worked my way back after that," recalls Sudha.
How did it feel when her inspiring story made it to school text books? "I was touched with gratitude. In fact, after that I came to be known as Nache Mayuri – my superhit film but I still believe failure is the stepping stone to success."
Coming back to the present, how difficult is it practising for Jhalak… with a Jaipur foot? "It's painful but as an artist I believe the show must go on. One thing I have learnt is life is a gamble, play it."
You are trained in Kathak so how hard was learning Salsa? "It was quite tough but I practised daily for 4 hours."
