'I don't know if Farah is harsh'

Akashh Deep
Best known as the long-haired, evil Ansh from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Akashh Deep Saigal has now gone in for a drastic makeover. The blonde hair has been cropped short, and he now plays the devoted son, Eklavya, in Kyunki.

And as if to reinforce his positive image, he's also been sporting a tilak on his forehead. It seems to have done his some good, considering he's really popular with the ladies on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. He tells us about his new innings.

Why are you sporting a tikka?
I am heavily into spiritualism, and one of my gurujis advised me to put a tikka every day. It helps me think straight, it helps me stay focussed. I feel confident when I put it on.

Are you a religious person?
Yes. Every morning, there's a pooja at home. I'm a Shiv bhakt.

How do you stay in touch with your gurujis? You go to them or...
(Interrupts) They come over to my place. I think that everybody needs a guruji in his/her life. Not so long ago, I used to feel that I am the guru of everybody, but not anymore.
Are you wearing this tikka because you want to win the Jhalak crown?
No. I've been wearing the tikka since the last four months. At that time, Jhalak... ki koi jhalak bhi nahin thi!

Why don't we see you dancing with the tikka on?
At the end of the day, Jhalak is a show. So I have to remove it during the performance.

Then why do you retain it in Kyunki...?
There it goes with my positive character.

Some people thought that you weren't up to the mark in the first round. You hardly moved and your clothes weren't good either.
I danced to Ya Ali (Gangster) and it would have been funny if I had danced a lot on this number. Let me tell you that in Jhalak... the contestants are not allowed to choose their songs nor the costumes. I danced and wore what I was given.

It's being said that ex-girlfriend Farah Khan is very harsh in judging you?
I really wouldn't know. Logon ko aisa lag raha hai, but I don't think so. Maybe she expects a lot more out of me. If you know someone really well, you set higher standards for him or her. Like she expects the best from me, even I expect the best from her.

Rate her work, Main Hoon Na.
She was very good for her first film.

Why did you and Farah split?
We were together for two years. And then came a point when we both felt that things were not working out. The separation was a mutual decision. I wouldn't like to into the details now. Today, Farah is married and I respect her a lot.

Were you invited to her shaadi?
Yes, but I did not attend.

Why?
I was out of town.

What happened when you met her at Jhalak...?
We spoke to each other. We laughed. We are professionals and we are mature. Old things can't ruin our present. I hadn't spoken to her after her shaadi. There was no animosity between us when we parted ways. So, there was no element of discomfort.
