Madhuri Dixit is Bollywood's Sachin Tendulkar. Non-controversial, easy and immensely gifted, a Mad About Madhuri fan club is dearplace to every heart. She's been a diva, a dutiful wife and is also a doting mother. From running the nation in a frenzied dhak dhak mode for long years (not to miss the several hearts that beat across the world too) before settling down with hubby Dr Sriram Nene, Madhuri's smile works much before her words or talent do. She's been one of the longest and favourite chapters from Bollywood Diaries, a charm that's held a grip through years. And behind that smile is a woman who probably enjoys what she does. More importantly, who does what she enjoys.

What, however, interests most of us is her easy transition from actor to homemaker, from topping people's list of favourites to embracing 'near-anonymity' (she was quoted saying this in one of her post-marriage interviews when she joined her husband in Denver, USA). It, of course, is a different matter that Madhuri can never be anonymous. Not only that, she continues to flutter many a heart, as many today as she did earlier. A fine example of one who's handled extremes in life, with elan, patience and grace, there's lots that makes Madhuri special. So, it comes as no surprise when during her first visit to aapnu Amdavad on Wednesday, the dhak dhak lady bowls over guys and girls, all of who believe there can never be another phenomenon called Madhuri Dixit.

Here is what we think she has in good measure...

The ACS combo (appeal, charm, smile)
There's little that works better than this if talent is what you've already got. Who isn't a slave to charm and appeal, especially when the one possessing it makes no effort to 'design' and use it as a tool. It's simple: Have Appeal, Will Charm. And the smile? Who and when hasn't it worked for?

Reality Show
No, we don't mean anything to do with reality shows here. With Madhuri, what you see is what you get. That's also how critics have recognised her. So, be it her gracious acceptance to a compliment or a plain, straightforward reaction to an unacceptable comment, what you get is pretty much like how it is. She's real and it shows.

Easygoing and Patient
She does her own thing and seems to have been patient with life's changes. Rather, she's 'played' every role well. Films or her life, Madhuri has maintained an easygoing attitude and comes across as very patient with things and people around her. Ask her fans, even the others, and they'll vouch for it.

Peace of contentment
She left the glory of films, and along with it a much public life, while she was at her career peak. She made a peaceful transition to wifedom and motherhood and stayed away from getting bitter about others who swiftly tried getting into her shoes (those her fans would term Madhuris-in-the-making). Today, as she makes yearly appearances to India, and now more frequent ones, to grace film events and television shows, we see in Madhuri the same thread of peace she earlier hung by. She is generous with encouragement and devoid of glances that scream envy. And, it is that contentment which peeps out through that smile.

And now, here's about her life, of late, in her words...

"One thing I strongly believe in is to do what your heart tells you. I have followed my heart which is why I am okay with all that comes by. While it may appear like a transition, my leaving Bollywood to marry and settle in the US with husband and now sons, I see it only as an extension to what I am. If my being an actor is my left hand, my roles of mother-wife-daughter are my right hand. I just see them as different roles I play. It's true I believe that the key to a happy heart is doing what you really want to. In fact, success to me means feeling happy... and there is enough to feel good about. Earlier films and my art gave me happiness as much as my husband and children do now. And since I can do both now, I try and juggle them. It's not like I don't miss acting, I do, but then I will act or do a film if something that really triggers my interest comes by.

"Yes, bringing up my children gives me joy and so do weekend parties we have at home; we have cooking parties where friends come over, all that is close to my heart. In fact, I remember how as a little girl, I dreamt of marriage, children... and today when I have them, I am enjoying the journey. This has been one of the longest patches I've been away from my kids - they came with me in December and went back to the US in January - and hence I do miss them, but that feeling too is to be lived. Yes, I miss hugging them, checking on what they eat, do in school, play, etc, and would love to be with them right now! But they have their father with them and together they are quite a team.

"In many ways, my husband and I are quite the opposites in our disposition. So, like they say, opposites attract. We do enjoy adventures together - taekwondo, skiing... in fact, take life as one big adventure. And here, I will repeat, follow your heart in all that you do. Even if things seem to go wrong, they will eventually feel right."
