Peace March report.
This year, there was a strong undercurrent of excitement running through the Peace March. This was due the presence, in the children's midst, of the much-loved and talented "Jassi" (Mona Singh) of "Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin" fame. She was the cynosure of all eyes, but like a true 'Miraite", she had eyes only for her teacher, mentor and guide, Dada J.P.Vaswani.
This year, children from over 40 schools participated in the Peace March. The route taken by the Peace March was from Shaniwarwada, through Laxmi Road, Somwar Peth, Nana Peth, Sant Kabir Chowk and on to Sadhu Vaswani Mission. The effervescence of the children sent bubbles of joy throughout the environment.
In front of a backdrop of the Dove of Peace, Dada J. P. Vaswani addressed the crowds, reminding them of the joyous occasion of the 127th birthday of Sadhu Vaswani – a true messenger of peace and lover of birds and beasts. Hence International Meatless Day is on the same day, 25th November.
Dada said that along with him, Mona Singh believes, that children can attain success and fame in life like her, only through qualities of courage, compassion and character.
Dada has the dream that these children, who are the building blocks of tomorrow, will enable the India of the future to be wholly vegetarian, with mercy and love towards animals.
The Mayor of Pune, Mrs. Rajni Tribhuvan, endorsed Meatless Day and proudly welcomed the Pune girl, Mona Singh, an ex-student of St. Mira's College.
Dada formally welcomed Mrs. Rajni Tribhuvan, Mona Singh, and other dignitaries and then Mona approached the podium amidst joyful and welcoming shouts and cheers by the children. She was, as an ex-student of St. Mira's thrilled and honoured to be on the stage with Dada. She had learnt from Dada that we have been given these hands to save not slaughter; to heal and not hurt.
Though she had a sore throat, it did not stop her from urging the children to become vegetarian like her. Her enthusiasm and sincerity roused the children and after that the auspicious torch was lit to commence the 'Shanti Yatra'. The white balloons for peace and the red ones for love were released. The march proceeded with Jassi at the head, shouting slogans like "Do not make your stomachs a graveyard", "Do not feed on a chicken, but feed a chicken".
The strong current of this flow of the Peace March through the streets of Pune was capable of inspiring all of India and the world to embrace peace and non-violence through abstaining from all food of violence – the source being our very own children.
