It is back to business in Gulmohur after the marriage date of Nandu and Raj is decided. As JandA get ready in the morning, Armaan casts a sideways glance at Jassi, who is putting the final touches to her business proposal.
He thinks, "Jassi, tumhara yeh idea, hume saath-saath Gulmohur ki tarakki ki taraf chalne dega, ya hume alag-alag raaston par chalne ko majboor kar dega?"
Jassi, meanwile, is praying, "Babaji, mera ye plan Gulmohur ko nayi unchaaiyon par le jayega na? Armaan aur main, apne maksad ko saath-saath haasil karenge na?"
They arrive in the boardroom. The rest walk in with serious faces. As Jassi gets up to make her presentation, Armaan smiles somewhat vaguely at her. She smiles back gratefully, and begins:
Jassi explains that to tackle both the international and local markets, and still keep their costs low, they need to liaison with the locals of each area they intend to set up business in. She has identified 25 districts across the country, each of which is known for a particular traditional weave. Due to poverty and the competition from mass-produced fabrics, these traditional designs are dying out. What the weavers need is a brand name that would enable them to find a market for their creations. That brand name would be Gulmohur.
Her plan would be to enter into a partnership with the Weavers' Guild of each district. The weavers would exclusively provide their traditional craft to Gulmohur. GM would use these designs in 2 ways: Maddy and his team would adapt the designs for the international market, using world-class fabrics and finishing. GM would also hire a certain number of local weavers for this purpose. Since Indian designs are in demand the world over, these could be expected to be a success.
For the local markets, a different strategy would be adopted: GM would use low-cost materials that would suit the common man's—or woman's!—pocket. Out of the profits, 25% would go to the weavers; another 25% would be used by GM to develop Crafts Villages in the area so that the weavers have permanent employment. The weaver's designs would be sold under the Gulmohur brand. The remaining 50% profit would go to GM. In other words, they would not open their regular stores in those areas, but develop local markets for their clothes.
There is silence as Jassi finishes. She looks nevously around. Maddy breaks the silence by exclaiming, "Jassi, you know what……I'm so relieved! Mujhe lag raha tha ki agar hum kisi small town ya village mein retail karte hai toh mujhe cheap fabrics par kapde design karne honge…..jisse achcha hai ki main suicide kar lun! Lekin tumhare plan se mujhe sirf international market pe concentrate karna hoga aur local market local weavers hi dekhenge…..I think it's brilliant!" He gets up and kisses her hand.
Ruby mom: I also think….it's a great idea.
Nandu: Isse hamare costs pe zyada nahin badhenge…main toh kahunga ki ek teer se do shikaar hai!
Raj: (thoughtfully) Lekin iske liye hume apni research teams inn districts mein bhejni hongi…..tumne unke costs include kiye Jassi?
She nods earnestly. "Sab kuch dhyan mein rakh kar hi main eye plan banaya hai." She looks expectantly at Armaan. "Armaan…tum kuch kahoge nahin?"
Armu: (sighing) Jassi, tumhara plan toh bahut achcha hai…but do you realise…sirf 50% profit hume milega….baaki weavers ko jayega?
Jassi: Armaan, wo 50% bhi hamare liye 100% hai, kyunki jinn areas se pehle hume koi profits nahin thi, wahaan se ab hume profits aane lagenge…..aur hum ye sirf profits ke liye toh nahin kar rahe Armaan!
Armu looks around, then nods quietly. "Tum theek keh rahi ho Jassi…..and since everyone seems to agree…..main bhi apna approval is project ke liye deta hoon!"
She looks in delight at him as everyone claps.
