MAD ABOUT YOU
Some fans are ready to go to any lengths to express their adoration for these telly stars. Harshada Rege explores...
Getting mobbed and having cellphone cameras shoved in front of their faces is something that celebs are used to. But many a time, even stars are stumped with the lengths that their fans go to just to get close to them. BT spoke to some actors to know about their craziest fans.
IQBAL KHAN
Iqbal Khan, who has a huge female fan-following, says, "I love to interact with my fans. But yes, sometimes one does come across fans who are a bit scary." Speaking about one such fan, Iqbal says, "There was a lady who would keep calling me her son. Somehow, she would always know what I was doing or going to do. Once when I was going to drop my brother at the airport, she called me and told me not to go as it was raining. And when I returned, she called me again to reprimand me for the same. That was when I got a bit worried." Not surprisingly, the actor has now stopped taking calls from this particular fan.
SHILPA SAKLANI
Shilpa Saklani who became popular as Ganga in Star Plus' Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, had a fan who sent her flowers and gifts for over four months. He also approached her to do a show for him. However, when the actor refused to comply, the fan got abusive. Shilpa says, "He was very abusive. In fact, after a point my husband Apoorva had to step in and tell him off." However such incidents don't deter Shilpa from interacting with her fans. "I make sure that I am nice to all my fans, especially senior citizens and kids. However, I immediately back off when some fans try to get too friendly," she says.
ARJUN PUNJJ
Arjun Punjj, who was popular as Prince in Sahara One's Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, was stumped when a fan came up to him and touched his feet. "When we were shooting he landed up on the sets and fought with the security guys, because he wanted to meet me. When we allowed him to come on the sets, he touched my feet. That was really bizzare. I took him to my van and offered him tea, but I had to ask him to go after a while when the shooting resumed," says Arjun. Arjun says that though, most of the actors are ready to sign autographs and pose with their fans, it's a bit irritating when people expect you keep talking when you have just returned back after working for long hours.
NAUSHEEN ALI SARDAR
Actor Nausheen Ali Sardar aka Kkusum, wasn't amused when she was told that a fan had slit his wrist when she refused to meet him. "This fan called me and told me that he wanted to be my friend. I realised that he was trying to be too friendly and tried to put him off politely, but he continued to trouble me. After a while I had to be rude to him. Later, someone told me that he had slit his wrist. But people advised me that I should not visit him or he would do such things in the future too," says Nausheen.
