Tele stars talk to Tushar Joshi about the first time they saw themselves on television, and their first impressions of themselves

Tina Parakh

First Impression:
I didn't even watch myself properly on screen. I waited for hours for my show to start and just when I was about to make the entry, I switched the television off. It was quite an anticlimax for me.

Me on TV: This was four years back when Hip Hip Hurray Part II was coming back.

Smriti Z Iraani

First Impression: The first time I saw myself perform on TV, I thought I needed to work on myself.

Me on TV: I am not really fond of looking at myself on television 'cause Ba (Sudha Shivpuri) told me that if you listen to an actor, he should sound convincing, only then will you look the part. Hence, I always listen to my voice, rather than watch what I am doing on screen.

Chetan Hansraj

First Impression: As a kid, I had done lots of work, but after growing up, I did three episodes of Sssh... Koi Hai on TV.

Me on TV: Since it was a horror show, Lavinia got quite scared watching it. It felt nice that I could act a bit.

Iqbal Khan

First Impression: It was during my school days for some MTV show. They were talking to some girls and asking them who is the nicest boy around, and everyone pointed at me. I thought it was damn sweet of them to do that.

Me on TV: I think everyone I knew saw it before I did.

Maaninee Misshra

First Impression: It was in 1994 when I won Miss Delhi pageant. I was very amused and excited to see myself on TV for the first time. That was the moment I felt a million emotions running through my heart and mind.

Me on TV: Watching myself on screen, I also realised that I was my own biggest critic.

Mona Singh

First Impression: The first time I saw myself on TV was in my first ad for Breeze. It felt like I was on top of the world. I told all my friends to watch it. Even today the feeling is still the same.

Me on TV: Before I became a model and an actress, whenever I watched television, I used to imagine myself out there. Now it's a reality.

Manav Gohil

First Impression: The first thing I did for TV was this outdoor show Patli Gulley for Channel V. It involved a lot of stunts and it was great fun.

Me on TV: I remember a couple of my friends watched me on the show it and called me to say they liked it.

Rohit Roy

First Impression: The very first time I saw myself on screen was during Swabhimaan.

Me on TV: I hated myself and was convinced that my career was over. Manasi also thought I was the worst actor ever. Only when Shobhaa De told me that I did complete justice to the character she had written, did I breathe easy.

Anita Hassandani

First Impression: I remember sitting on front of the TV 24x7 waiting for my ad to air. It felt awesome the first time I saw it, and even asked my entire family to watch it.

Me on TV: It was six years back. I had done an ad for Sunsilk hair oil that was aired on DD2.

Aamna Shariff

First Impression: Most people don't like seeing themselves for the first time, but I quite enjoyed watching myself on television.

Me on TV: It was about four years back in a music video — Dil ka alam. It was really well done, no complaints.
