Who's that girl? |
You know her as Nimmo, but there's more to actor Sanjeeda than her television debut |

Chandigarh, April 9: It's been a much talked about television debut and for reasons well justified. For it's not every day that wannabe actors get hand-picked for a show that pegs them in the lead. After Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin that put lesser known model Mona Singh in the spotlight, now it is Nimmo's turn with Star One's new show on the block - Kya Hoga Nimmoa Ka? This one brings in someone called Sanjeeda. With no familiarity bells ringing in the background, everyone's wondering who's that girl? That's when we decide to get down to work. Read on. The day's just started for Sanjeeda as we arrive on the sets of Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka (JJ Studios, Mumbai) post-lunch. ''I am lucky the shoot's timed well today,'' smiles the light-eyed lady ushering us in her well-lit make-up room. The petite and pretty Sanjeeda pulls a chair, crosses her legs, pouts and suggests she is ready to talk. ''It's not surprising you haven't seen my previous work. But a few episodes on television and now everyone's noticed me,'' smiles Sanjeeda who mentions her ''super-hit success'' in films in India's other film zone - down south. ''I have worked in regional movies predominantly in Tamil and Kannada and with some of the best banners in the industry,'' lists out the actor who was all set to open a dance institute back home in Ahmedabad before she decided to pack her bags and head to Bollywood. ''I have trained a little in classical but it's popular film dance that I taught,'' she tells us. The detour to southern India happened ''just like that''. While regional films acted as a launching pad, Sanjeeda was, like her name, serious to make that transition to Bollywood. So she moved in Mumbai and got quite lucky. ''It's an interesting story,'' laughs Sanjeeda as she narrates: ''I met Ekta Kapoor at friend's party. She was looking for a fresh face for her new show Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka. She asked me to audition and the next thing I know I was Nimmo! It's a great launching pad for me. I think today television is as big as it gets.''For those who haven't caught the show (Monday to Thursday), Nimmo is a confident, bubbly character, quite full of life. She's also Ms Butter-fingers vis-a-vis being as clumsy as it gets and she has a peculiar relationship with God (played by none other than Navjot Singh Sidhu!). ''She's quite like me in certain ways,'' says Sanjeeda who doesn't take her name too seriously. While everyone's talking about Nimmo's look with her ethnic kurtas and jeans combos, Sanjeeda doesn't want to take credit for it. ''That's thanks to Nim Maasi, who's Ekta's maasi, and designs all the clothes for her shows,'' mentions the actor who is shooting back to back for the show. No parties planned? ''Oh yes, no matter what time I get free from work, I always meet my friends - even if it's just having a cup of coffee together.'' And no, she hasn't given up plans to make it to Bollywood. ''I never plan ahead. I take things as they come. But yes, I also never say never,'' she settles it all. Look out for her |
