Atharv has been portrayed as a practical, level-headed guy who wants to fulfill his dreams etc. and it was going very well. Today's marriage "proposal", if you can call it a proposal, assassinated his character for me.
Here he is supposed to respect women and specifically Vividha for being a strong woman.. Then he goes ahead and treats her like an object and bets on her??? 😡😡😡 Really?
So after marriage -- one fine day -- he will again place her on a bet?? After all she is going to the winnings from one bet, fair game for another??

They tried to mellow the scene later on using his and his mother's conversation and talking about silent love but putting a person on a bet is completely unethical.

Yup I agree but atharv who is shown brave and confident men right now will change in future he will going to loose his self confidence in future as vikram also said atharv character will change and it has many layers .thats very very bad from cvs side of presentin this bet scene but let's see how they justify this.

I disagree. Atharv was counter-punching - the first punch obviously thrown by Kailash

It's Kailash who always brings up Atharv's absentee dad and throws questions about Atharv's legitimacy, which would be a sore spot for anyone in that situation. Kailash had won the auction, there was no reason to be sore. Atharv turned it around by pointing out that he had paid twice as much for it by getting into a bidding war, while Atharv was richer by at least 20 lakhs. It was Kailash who made it ugly by bringing in Atharv's legitimacy into question.

So Atharv's response was an appropriate counter punch. Kailash hit him in his sore spot, he hit back Kailash in his sore spot. His pride in his daughter. Kailash wants her to marry up. Atharv, by challenging in public that he'd marry her, dealt a humiliating counter punch.

It was funny to see Kailash groan and regret being at the auction later. Well A$$hole, if you can't stand the heat, don't enter the kitchen.

No, I don't think that girls are commodities, but it's a worthy price to bring Kailash down a few notches.

If he had challenged directly to say - "I will marry her you wait and watch", I would not object. That would serve K absolutely well and perfectly.

He made it a bet -- conditional upon being able to start a project on the newly acquired land. AND that also publicly. He treated the girl as a pawn in his battle with K.

In my POV -- Vividha was not as offended with it as she should have been. Shocked- yes. Offended-no. I think I am more offended that a woman is being bet upon, that she was. 😆

The newly acquired land is Kailash's. From what I could make out, Atharv originally bought it for 20 lakhs, bid it up until Kailash offered 40 lakhs, and then Atharv let it go. So Atharv made a 20 lakh profit.

So how does Atharv start any project on a property that he just sold?

He was talking about placing the first brick on the land -- I understood it as starting the project with the money. That makes the marriage contingent on the project.

I didn't get that, tho - how would Atharv get to place the foundation stone on Kailash's land?

Kat it seems as if we are watching the same shows on tv. I agree with u on this it was total character assassination. I dnt like reading things that are not either shown to be in scenes or expression. Here that wimp fainted to show her shock. No words for that. She immature nature showed throughout the episode. She was just a little bit something cnt even say it was anger. It seems she either understands his nature aka microwave or she just doesn't value herself. I feel 2nd hand embarrasment for her. This show was going so well. Why did they not show this episode properly or show it atleast after a week and just built it up. Very disappointed Atharve is my fav hottie at the moment. And really they just tried to camouflage the episode by giving us sweet scenes after the betting scenes to take away the sting of the episode. I dnt get what was the need for them to show this scene. But also Arthave is not your typical lead he is almost a grey character so this might actually be in line with his character. As that girl(I have a problem with names can never remember them) calls him a hot head microwave. I think it is correct. Coz he is waiting to explode and when he does it will not be a pretty sight.

@bold - So true. Her reaction was so mild that I wanted to kick her. Then goes to talk to his mother??😕 Why? Can you not confront him directly when you can fight with about absolutely nothing in every other scene?

The whole betting scene was ridiculous as it just did not go with Atharv character, that has been established so far. Betting in a woman's life and honor does not go with it.
Did her father deserve the kick? yes, absolutely. He deserves much worse.

This may not make sense but my assumption was land/bricks were metaphors for a project with the money he got from the sale of the land. -- I think dialogue writers need to explain this going forward. 😆😆
